Key Stats – Watford v Manchester United
Manchester United have won the last nine matches in all competitions against Watford

Wayne Rooney has scored three goals in two appearances against Watford
The Red Devils have failed to score in three of their last five
Only Sunderland have produced fewer shots this season than United
Watford have lost just two of their last nine at Vicarage Road

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is halfway into his three-year deal at Old Trafford. United have unquestionably improved under Van Gaal; seventh before he arrived, fourth last season, fourth again this season. But whether they have improved enough given that the club have undergone an unprecedented £250million spending spree in the last three transfer windows is open to debate.

Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores is confident Heurelho Gomes will not let his mistakes at Leicester affect him when they host Manchester United after the international break. The Brazilian goalkeeper was at fault for both Leicester goals as Watford lost 2-1 at the King Power Stadium. He allowed Ngolo Kante's shot to slip through his hands for the opener and then brought down Jamie Vardy for a penalty which the red-hot England striker converted. Gomes has been a model of consistency since joining the Hornets from Tottenham almost 18 months ago, but he held his hands up and accepted blame for the defeat, taking to Twitter to apologise. Sanchez Flores, whose team host Manchester United when the Barclays Premier League resumes after the international break, said: "There's no need to be sorry."When we come back he will be the same, back to normal. He is part of the soul of the team and is an amazing leader in the dressing room
More than any other day we support him because we love this player. "Heurelho is always ready to come and read passes. "Players make decisions and we have to accept what happens when they do. In one second players have to make a decision and it's difficult; he is not guilty. This is football and you accept the situation, there's no need to be sorry.

    The man in the MIddle
Referee for Saturday is Robert Madley assisted by M McDonough and M Perry. We last encountered this trio at home to Swansea - when Valon Behrami was shown a straight red card for a bad tackle. Madley is only 30 and has refereed in the Premier League since April 2013. In 26 games he has shown 7 red cards and 81 yellow.

    Team News will follow

    Betting

Manchester United are odds on with all bookies to win - average 10/11
A draw comes in at around 5/2
and if you fancy Watford you can get between 7/2 and 4/1

Hope I have not stolen your thunder but a long while ago I said I would try to share the thread workload - tried to get this done before you put too much effort on it. Will try to do more if you are happy

Manchester United will not issue an update on the severity of Anthony Martial 's foot injury until Louis van Gaal's pre-match press conference on Friday.
On Friday evening, United midfielder Michael Carrick left the Estadio Jose Rico Perez on crutches after damaging his ankle ligaments in England's 2-0 defeat to Spain in Alicante. He is almost certain to miss the Watford game.

Good to see you back, Leo. Man U must be favourites for this, but I can't help wondering if they are going to be the new Liverpool, now that Fergie has left.

This has to be a very hard fixture to predict for us hornets. Logic tells us that we have a poor record against them and they have resources we don't even dream about - but we have a passion and clearly this season our team is streets different to those previously promoted to the Prem. I expect a draw - hopefully not goalless - but something inside me is telling me we will win.
