It does seem some people, journalists included, are beginning to get used to the idea that all clubs seek legitimate ways to improve...

It was a pretty good article, although a few bitter comments from Gilmartin. At least it was a bit mroe researched than normal.

What is funny are the comments below - it seems we are ruining English football because these loans are not allowing our youth to come through... even when someone names the Academy players that have played this year. It would be interesting to see how comparable we are with most teams. It's probably more the players we have had to buy in cheap over the last few years that we are denying opportunites (the likes of Dickinson amd Iwelumo, plus Yeates and Forsyth), who just aren;t good enough for the football we play. At least these youngsters, Zola can try and train them the way he wants to play...

Good point... our youngsters we still bring on and they stay or progress etc...

the onese we are not using have in the main been older or lesser players who really havent been that good for us....
hence we are pushing for promotion

    Obvious really :)

I like the Liverpool fan suggesting at least "they bring British talent through"

I suppose if you call spending 100 million or so plus big wages that then fair enough.

    That comment made me laugh.

I respect Liverpool's youth record, every bit as much as Man United's. But the current crop of English players got Kenny Dalglish sacked. Pretty strange time to pipe up about it.

None of the top teams have produce their own from a really young age (Under 16s) for quite a whille..

Maybe Welbeck counts but he is hardly top quality yet.

Most of its been poached from smaller clubs for big money.

Probably Cleverley is the only one I can think of. They produce lot's of potential that does not quite make it against the foreign competition - does it say something about our (England) training & devleopment set-up's? Another good example is Lansbury - loads of potential but just did not cut it at the Gooners and even West Ham....this discussion always make me think of Jimmy Davis and what sort of player would he have been? RIP James...

I read somewhere yesterday that KD is the fifth highest paid manager in the country this season, even though he hasn't managed a club since May 2012. Funny old world really.
