As this one drifted to it's conclusión, and I frantically kept pressing the refresh button, I was convinced we'd be seeing a last minute equaliser, so itwas nice to break that nasty habit. To be blunt we are neither the finished object nor the best team in the league, so we'll be seeing more games like this. But finally, despite criticisms, we can dig in and win ugly, and, as my head tell's me to drivel on and lose it completely, we can get better and finish high this season. There's a lot of football to be played, but this is a great start.
Wolves will be another toughie, but maybe a smidge less cynical than Watford.

That's usually us Ken letting one late on!

Fair play - you got the goal and defended well looking dangerous on the break as we have done in the past.

Good luck for the season - seems like you will have a decent one.

I don't think fitness is a problem but it is the amount of effort we are putting in to match good passing sides like Watford. Buyens is being asked to put in a lot of work in central midfield. Playing 4-4-2 with two wide players is asking a lot of Jackson and Buyens.

Despite winning, we need a few changes for Tuesday -

    Wilson in for the Icelander.
Cousins in to the middle, with Jacko making way.
Perhaps give Harriott a run on the left.

    Questions and doubts -

Not sure what to do with Tucudean.
    When will Bulot be ready?
Will Solly be ready for another outing so soon?

I agree it's time for a bit of tinkering. Bob gave Tucudean credit for keeping Deeney out of the game, something which I didn't notice. I'm a bit perplexed by this, Tucudean is a striker, isn't he? Igor needs some support up front, and Church is the only other striker we've got.

Wilson in for the Icelander. Agreed

Cousins in to the middle, with Jacko making way. Agreed

Perhaps give Harriott a run on the left. Agreed, unless Bulot is ready

Not sure what to do with Tucudean.I know Moussa made some appalling decisions on Saturday, but I think he would contribute more than Tucudean. I would give him a try up front(ish).

Will Solly be ready for another outing so soon? Any doubt, and Gomez is a very capable subsititute, especially if playing behind Wilson rather than behind Gudmundsson.

We have Ansah :) He scored goals at every level for Arsenal until his injury.

And he's scoring for the U-21's too. But he doesn't seem to be in the reckoning, don't know why, haven't seen him, have you?

Nice one, eddie. How have you been of late?

Gomez is a great shout and he will of course free up Wilson to continue at right-midfield.

What is the general view on Bulot? Is he a quality addition or just another Asteroid? Time will tell, I suppose...

Reading comments on Bulot from standard fans - he deceives to flatter. Some argue he never played in his right position, but the move didn't seem to work out.

From the YouTube clips, he seems decent, definitely a player there. But going by you tube isn't always the smartest idea.

Is that if Gudmundsson is injured or just in general? Because Gudmundsson is one of our best players when fit. The rest I agree with completely, Jacko has the heart but not the legs anymore and Cousins much better in the middle.

Gudmundson has aggravated his ankle apparently. Agree if fit we shouldn't/can't drop him. Love his effortless technique - a real cultured player.

I heard groin injury, but yeah, that's what I meant, if he's not injured too much from the international break have to play him. BUT with Wilson on it allowed Solly to bomb down the wing and have Wilson drop back, the kind of protection Solly doens't get with Gudmundsson.

But Solly is unlikely to feature on Tuesday and if Gudmundsson is fit with Gomez in for Solly then that kind of overlap doesn't happen so stick with Gudmundsson and bring on Wilson at 60 minutes to preserve Gudmundsson for Saturday..

Definitely would like to see Ansah given a chance to shine so long as he doesn't contract the disease which has spread from Church to Tucudean and Moussa - it is called indecision. I heard an interesting stat on the radio this afternoon that 85% of the goals in the world cup were scored on the first touch of the ball. I hate to think how many touches Moussa took on Saturday before he was dispossessed.

A fit Gudmundsson is a must for us. Like others on here, I really rate him and enjoy his easy style of play.

I'm happy to see Lawrie fill in, though.

I can't wait for Tuesday. We will win.

Jackson was finished 18 months ago. Cousins for me simply MUST play central with the Buyens.

    Wilson Buyens Cousins Gudmundson

Across tge middle looks impressive to me.

If people dont think that Tucudean is quite the answer yet (I still believe he needs to get used to the Division more) why not have Jackson take his place, because the latter seems to be playing a bit deeper at the moment I reckon we're missing his late runs in the box and subsequent goals.

I did see that Peeters commented the other day that he wont use Bulot just yet as wants him to get used to the "Charlton Way"... in a sense this is good (Wonder if we'll see him against Rotherham until Saturday) yet until we know he's possibly the answer on the left why not use.

    Henderson
Solly - Bikey - Ben Haim - Wiggins
    Wilson - Buyens - Cousins - Gudmundsson
    Jackson
    Vetokele

It also means giving Jackson a free reign so as Captain can decide himself whether he needs to help out defensively or whether he can bomb forwards so when we're on the back foot we can also use the below formation (after all Jackson has also been a Left-Back so knows how to Defend).

    Henderson
Solly - Bikey - Ben Haim - Wiggins
    Jackson
    Wilson - Buyens - Cousins - Gudmundsson
    Vetokele

Whilst i really like your proposals A4L it's always a gamble messing with the formation...!!

I came to the conclusion after the Watford game that Calum Harriott is not going to make it as a Championship standard footballer. This judgement has been long in coming, and is based on seeing the vast majority of his (frustrating) performances. We all recall his sundry cock ups and disasters - who could forget his miss at Sheff Utd last season ? The reason I think he won't make it is that he lacks any semblance of a footballing brain, or any composure on the ball, whatsoever. He has been coached by a number of people on this now, and just does'nt get any better. His two glaring failings , three actually....are a terrible final ball, giving away possession far too cheaply, as welkl as being a weak finisher. The occasional step over and trick cannot compensate for the above.

Calum Harriott - Lloyd Sam Mark 2.
