Warnock: Has big ambitions under new owner Tony Fernandes

Neil Warnock has admitted he would have quit Queens Park Rangers had Tony Fernandes not taken over the club.

The former Sheffield United and Crystal Palace manager said he was close to leaving Loftus Road after his side were hammered 4-0 by Bolton on the opening day of the season.

Warnock was frustrated with what was going on at the club, both on and off the field, and disappointed they had failed to push on after winning the Championship title while operating on a shoestring budget.

But the Rangers boss says Fernandes was key in keeping him at the club.
    Changing

He told the Daily Star: "If Tony hadn't had arrived I would have left after that 4-0 defeat to Bolton.

"I am being honest here. I didn't want to leave after what I had achieved but things needed changing. I was ready to go.

"Tony arrived and it's a whole new game. I signed players who were once totally out of our wage limit. I also signed players who still had something to prove, the type of people who I have always gone for.

"For once I could shop in Harrods and not Woolworths. For once I could be on a level playing field with the others.

"Now I will be very disappointed if I do go. I still have ambitions but I also know if we finish bottom I will be sacked."

He says he would have left. And miss his payoff? I guess we'll never know.

    Thank fu*k Fernandes came in.

Don't count your chickens Swords. In one of the long interviews North has posted on another thread, Warnock reflects on his unpopularity with other managers, has a dig at Pulis and Capello and..... Announces that he would leave for a 'bigger and better club'.

That's right I seen that SB73. Although I couldn't fault him on that score, anyone would probably do the same. I wonder what Nelly would've said about the Ref had we not equalised today?!

I haven't heard any post match interviews yet, but would be surprised if the ref does not get some stick. Just hope we do not get the paranoia/ sarcasm that Warnock seems to be trying to control. Re the 'leaving' line, I just think this shows how naive some fans are. For managers and players this is a job - if a better one comes along they will take it (just as I would) with very few exceptions. It's only fans who 'love' clubs, and that's what gives us the right to criticise the hired hands who play for them and manage them.
In reality I think Neil knows QPR is his only chance to prove what he can do with decent players and great owners. If this is the kind of football he has always wanted to play, must be quite depressing looking back on how he has been forced to spend most of his career. Good luck to him and the R's for this year!

    Well put SB73.

In relation to Warnock's post match interview it made me feel very edgy indeed. Yes the ref was crap but that was Nelly talking after we'd got a last minute equalizer!

I dread to think what way he'll react when we've lost 3 or 4 on the spin with major decisions going against us. I just know in my heart of hearts the bloke will totally lose it at some point this season. Its as clear as day.

Interesting to have seen his wife and kids' reaction to being dragged to Blackburn from Richmond on Thames....narrow escape for Neil in every sense - despite the Arsenal result Rovers are nailed on for relegation. Why did Dann go there and not to us!
