Just had a call from a bloke who said he was from Hull City Online Technical Support and they had noticed that my computer had various problems and if I turned it on then they could fix things for me (or something like that). I immediately thought of Tiger Player and thought it was connected with that but then I "woke up" and realised it must be some kind of scam to get into stuff on my computer especially as the bloke was Indian and I could hardly understand him I just put the phone down but I know there are some people out there who are more easily taken in so maybe you could spread the word.
I got an email this morning telling me I had won £1,050,000. All I had to do was give my full name, date of birth, full address, occupation and bank details. I've not had the money yet though
thanks for the bank details. if you have any problems getting the money you can contact me on Grand Cayman.
It's a common scam. They usually claim to represent Microsoft but they will try anything. If you google 'Microsoft phone scam' or something similar you'll see it's very common. There is no legitimate agency that will call you directly to tell you of problems on your computer. Best just tell them to f*** off.
I'm going to be laughing soon, I've got £1.7m coming from Dr Godfrey Ugo of Zenith Bank in Lagos and another £1.2m coming from Sunday Ikechukwu, of the First Bank of Nigeria. I've already ordered the Aston.
I've been on a roll recently too. A while ago I got an email from Banki Moon to say that I had been left over $1m in some yanks will. I sent him my details so look forward to getting that money soon too. I'm not sure when Banki Moon started doing probate lawyer work, and don't recall ever knowing anyone in the USA who would leave me money, but if you can't trust the head of the UN who can you trust??
There are currently technical problems with my online HSBC account, the main one being that I haven't got one, but if I just email off my account details and password some kind bloke said he'd fix them for me. I've also picked up some dirt cheap viagra and a phd recently.

In 2006, a report concluded that £150m a year was being duped from UK residents, with an average of £31k being taken from each person. As you say, you've got to be pretty dim(or senile) to get taken in by it.
the bank scams pray on greed , gullibility and stupidity to yes , the PC helpline ones pray on those that lack tech know how , computer savvy and trust in a household name ... and that often means the elderly so no ! I had the Microsoft one (all my hardware is by Apple) he said he could prove he was from MS by telling me my unique number (but that isnt unique all PCs use the same errrm unique number ) i was playing along till i told him i just googled the convo and that it was warning of being a scam. 15 mins of wasting his time - he got quite angry
If I get any call from anyone offering me services or products I never asked for, I just say 'this is a TPS number, you're a ****, **** off and die'. They always hang up immediately. Sometimes I ring them back.
Still say that doesn't ever mean that they deserve it. Before anyone asks NO I haven't been taken in by any scam. I just don't feel that people deserve to be scammed. It's like saying you deserve to be burgled or robbed.
Slightly different subject but the one that really annoys me is when people try to buy goods using a stolen credit card. At work we always contact Barclays and they tell you whether it's dodgy. If it isn't they give us a number to confirm we can go ahead with the transaction without any liability later (if it does turn out to be dodgy). But that's the only thing that happens. We have contacted the police when we've been told the card is stolen, but they don't give a 5hit. So if someone nicks your card and you don't notice it missing for a while the thieves could be using it with Police knowledge and you won't be told.
Got one yesterday from The Electronic Payments Association telling me my direct deposit request had failed, but if I send my bank details...yada...yada.... Anyway, get these a lot, but this dude (from Brazil?!?) sent the email and neglected to hide the 600 or so email addresses he also sent it to. I did a REPLY ALL telling him to "va se foder" No response as yet, but I'll keep you updated.
TPS is a great line, I tend to ask them there name....get them to spell it and keep getting it wrong , what company they work for, pretend to be really interested...then slap em down with the TPS line and thank them for the info as it will be most helpful when i report them. A new one i had the other day was someone (indian shock horror) saying I was entitled to a rebate on my energy bills and I had paid promptly over the last 2 years (pay by direct debit!). Only wanted my bank details to transfer the money into! I just asked them who my current energy supplier was and surprise surprise they put the phone down.
