Walton signs a one year extension to his contract.

That is the first disappointment of the coming summer.........no talk of cutting his salary to what he is worth.

That is a large chunk of expenditure we cannot afford.........take away his penalties.....and what do you get......could someone please tell me because I obviously cannot understand his benefit to mid-field.

This is the difficulty. The club obviously like him and we don't know the terms of any contract extension. Also, he was one of those who went unpaid for a long period and does sound like he's a genuine Green these days. I just don't like to see him and Wotton together in a starting line up.

Just a genuine question Westernmac because I don't know the answer but have you actually watched him this season very often?

Walton for me shows no heart whatsoever for the cause. He is a lousy Captain in my opinion in that he blames others rather than encourages. Maybe when there were youngsters everywhere on the pitch he thought of himself as their chief but he is not effective with a team of older players. He thinks he is Glen Hoddle with his attempts at passing and clearly isn't. Apart from his penalties and an odd goal here or there he does little for me at all. I did hear that he had taken a wage cut in exchange for a year option on the contract previously so maybe it is no surprise. One thing that tells me a lot is that nobody but nobody has come in with an offer for this supposed budding star. I am very disappointed he has another year as he is one I would have opened the door for with no regrets. First nail in Fletcher's coffin for me unless he had no option given previous agreements.

Sensible. I can't agree. In the half a dozen games I've seen Walton play he has been OK - not sparkling but OK. Not sure about the captaincy but I think he was given that when the team was full of 12-year-olds. I'm not a big fan but as I say, the club like him so maybe he gives something we don't see?

Fair enough Westernmac it is all about opinions isn't it. The question on whether you had seen him was because I wasn't sure if you got to games. I have voiced my opinion of Walton so many times now and it seems he is the Marmite player of either like or hate and I hate. As you say football people seem to see something in him but for the life of me I just can't see what.

I get to games as often as I can, sensible. Lots of conflicting demands on my time at present so only managed about six so far. Will try to take in the Cheltenham game as a final 'fix' before summer. I wish I lived closer - maybe move further West when I retire and then I can invest in a season ticket. I usually manage to drag three or four with me when I do make it down although that has been harder recently -it's not been the sort of fare for the 'neutral', I think you'll agree.

As for Walton, I really can't see why he was once considered a potential Premiership player. Maybe he started to believe his own publicity and thought he didn't have to work at it... Either way, it's only an issue if he is using up a space in the squad in place of someone better. The news I want to hear is that Blanchard is staying - from the games I saw, he looked very good at this level and worked well with Purse. I wouldn't like to split those two as our best players this term.

Not a bad sumary of Walton there Westernmac. I think that is his problem. He needs to focus on what will make him rich and not his ego. Absolutely agree with Blanchard and Purse. For player of season it has to be Blanchard for me. Been here all season and has got on with his job very quietly but very effectively. He is a better class than this league for sure although I suppose you don't have to be that good to look good in our team this term. He is one of those players you would keep if you went up the leagues.

It is a bit hard to sell Argyle of late to people who live in Plymouth let alone those that would have to travel. I took early retirement at 60 firstly because I could and secondly because I couldn't be arsed to get up for work any more and worked in an organisation where bosses talked a good job but seldom managed to put any of it into practice. As I was already living in Plymouth this didn't affect the Argyle Saturday so don't or didn't have your problem. The only thing I have to worry about is booking somewhere to go in the football season and it not clashing with a home match. Hacks the Mrs off sometimes but she has got used to it now.

Probably could have been lured elsewhere on a better contract but things can only better as they say....we will see.
