Now that we are out of the Championship, discussions about players' wages are much more common. With the average Premiership Rugby player being on 60k a week, how can we seriously continue paying footballers the millions they are on?' I know that when a monster investor comes in it makes a difference, but what happened to the days of paying players from gate receipts? God knows what te wage bill at Chelsea and Man City are, but they must be haemorrhaging cash!! We simply cannot attract big name players on big wages at a an 18,000 seated stadium, but what else can we do? The funny thing is, is that you never hear money, wages etc being discussed with regards to Rugby players. Now those fellas earn their dollar.....
I had to produce a report on footballers wages as part of my college coursework. After writing to governing bodies and clubs and by doing my own independent research the results I got were simply unbelievable!!
I assume you mean 60k a year for rugby players. Frankly it's all they're worth. The top players are genuinely worth the stupid money in football imo- perhaps not 200k a week but if a sheikh wants to throw endless cash at something then that's his call. What's far more ridiculous is the wages paid to those slightly too good for the lower leagues and on over a million per year. God knows what Vine, Agyemang and Pellicori cost us for a start.
Watford R, you are right with regards to the championship players, but those wage structures are a knock on effect from the premier league. League 1 players earn more than 60k a year. Rugby players graft for their money, never bitch or dive AND they never scream in the face of a ref. As or the sheikh, it makes it all a completely uneven playing field. Means that other teams who don't have billionaire owners have to spend all they have just to survive/compete, look at Everton. Back in 80s and early 90s you didn't hear about so many teams google belly up. All cos of crazy transfer fees and wages.
There`s got to be grass roots players that can do a job in the game, they just need a chance + a little time
