Thought about yesterday's game a bit and came to this conclusion. Could be complete bollocks or could have some legs. Wade Elliott as we know is a great ambassador to the club you only have to see against PNE it was Elliott that done the walk with Oskar to the half way line and as we know gladly posses for photos with fans like he has for one of us. He has always come across as an intelligent man and never have I known Redprint to admit that he got something completely wrong. Not a dig at Redprint, don't know him but sometimes to me he does talk sense. Back to yesterday, we've been calling out for changes in formation and I know Pembo stated we tried this and got stuffed by Derby prior. But that game the players looked confused and did not understand their roles. Yesterday they knew exactly where to be and what to do. They used players that was previously discarded and we was told we couldn't rotate enough. But once again yesterday proved this was not the case. Now either Pembo was not trusted to make these suggestions previously and got caught up in the stubbornness and didn't want to confront or something changed. We seemed to break all the theory's put to us and this has to be someone's suggestion. Someone must of suggested that filling the bench with someone from the U21's would at least give that player the feeling of progression. Someone must of looked at Middlesborough and thought pin their wing backs back they become uncomfortable. Someone must of suggested to tell Smith to stay on Downing and prevent him even looking like he actually played let alone make any influence. And finally someone must of suggested in the second half to change formations not one but twice so we had Plan A Plan B and even Plan C. Brought Wilbs on the right time and the ball stuck to him against tired defenders. We know from last season if the players was down Elliott came on and they lifted to the level we saw they played yesterday. I know that one daffodil don't make a spring. but everything needs to start somewhere so I'm hoping that who ever comes in don't rock the boat too much with the back room staff as I think Elliott could go onto being a good manager somewhere. So my question is, what or who do you lot think
My thinking too, clearly we played a formation yesterday that the players were happier with and look what happened. They were clearly under direction from an experienced tactician who could see what was needed rather than just blindly persevere lads and it will work.... Makes you wonder why they didn't just take it on themselves to disobey instructions previously.
Wade, whilst not having the required "tenure" right now, has the makings of a club man. Someone in the same vein as Scotty Murray. He may go on to prove himself as astute manager but moving him up now would be the same scenario as with Tinnion all those years back. This would be a huge mistake for both Wade and the club. Things go south and all the fans would be crying out that the Board went for the cheap option. Wade may deserve a chance but not at this time - it simply would not be fair on him.
I'm in agreement with you, my concern is that another manager might not see him as part of their back room staff. I would like to see him go onto good things with our club.
I like Wade Elliot and agree he would be a great choice as part of the backroom staff here.. I would leave him and Pembo in charge for the season too but that would depend on who we may have a chance on getting here. if a big name manager does become available we would be silly not to take that!
I think there is some pretty sound reasoning in ROD'S comments giving the youngsters a run out has always been a fav of mine, but of course has to be right time and they have to be on the bench to start with..... looking at some of the games on the football progs last night it is amazing how many "star /very useful players" there are popping up that are under 21 ... however, they are all mostly embedded in a team with at least 3 or 4 over the age of 28 the expeirenced ones Champs or prem qualified. We do need to have at least 2 more "oldies" in the squad and as previously posted Wilbs would be good to come on aftrer 60mins ..maybe even do first 60 mins?
Wilbs is more useful as a sub when the defenders are tiring, the first 60 minutes they are fresh and can deal with his threat. Just look at Tuesday v yesterday, Tuesday he could challenge for most but nothing ever came off barring the goal. Yesterday the defence was tiring and he was a thorn in their sides, the ball was won and held up brilliantly.
Wade may have some professionals as good friends from his playing days. Would be worth seeing if he could get some people in on loan before the window closes
Actually, having just watched the post match interview, it looks like JP was calling the shots yesterday so is probably quite pissed off that we are talking about WE when it looks like he was in charge of the formation and changes (I know I would be)...
JP should have told SC this ain't working and we need to think about a different way. That did not happen up until yesterday. WE must have had a major part in the setup and it worked brilliant. Same again Tuesday please. if you are still in charge
