Thought Allen did well yesterday, confident he can do a job in the Swansea game whilst Lucas serves the ban. Should have that extra boost as its his old club too
I think he's a very good player but on occasion he simply doesn't suit the game and we then need an option that we don't have.
I was surprised he was taken off tbh. I didn't think he'd done much wrong, it was his first appearance under Klopp and others (aka Milner) have played every minute and would benefit from a slight rest. No point resting Lucas since he's suspended this weekend anyway.
Which runs were these? The one where he was offside and practically ran in a straight line? Or the one where he ran behind the defender instead in front and ended up fouling? Yes - he runs and he's certainly trying but his movement is so poor. there is zero intelligence - there was another example in another game where he could run to the left and stretch the defence but instead decides to run towards the right and blocks off Clyne's space.
I like Allen - thought he did well. Problem is, you can't have Milner, Allen and Lucas in the same midfield because it offers zero attacking threat. all 3 are good squad players to have but one will be sold in the summer as we can't accommodate all of them.
Firmino was poor - hardly got into the game, didn't get service but when he did, was wasteful. But it's no coincidence that he and Coutinho have both been poor when a certain someone is playing up front.
As mentioned, Benteke is good for 15-20 goals a season - but it will come at the expense of disrupting a fluid attack and putting in balls from wide areas regularly (as we saw clyne cross into him last night). And this is the fundamental thing - if you take away the occasional worldie he scores from his game, what else does he offer?
The one he got into end of Ibe's pass (admittedly offside). The run in behind to get on the end of Milners ball which he then volleyed wide. the one you say he should have gone front, disagree, he went to go front then peeled off behind the defender. Was very clever movement and e lost the defender and was just unlucky there was a slight tangle of legs. Its m funny that when we play the way we're playing which doesn't suit him 100% yet he's still scoring 1 in 2 for us he gets shot down by you.... Yet balotelli was doing even worse general play, wasn't scoring yet you'd find every excuse under the sun for him including the team not playing to his strengths.
Benteke isn't a perfect fit but he's getting a goal every two games and we're winning so how the **** can people be moaning FFS? He's not even first choice at that either, he's losing out to a midfielder! He's not going to be the long term solution but for now he's doing the business when asked so whats the problem?
Eh? Any striker who's capable of 15-20 goals a season in the PL is worth his weight...... What does goals at the expense of fluid attacking play even mean Jimmy? Benteke is a goal scorer, as he showed last night. He took a poor cross, got his body shape bang right, controlled it brilliantly and hammered it in the net, that's his job, he does it well, he scores goals.
To be in play from an indirect free kick the ball must have travelled it's full circumference and it didn't, unless I'm still working in old money
