Anyone here remember watching him play? what was he like etc??? I know he played/coached for us for abit???
From my very vague memories as a youngster he was absolutely ****e, was paid £5k per week when we didn't have a pot to piss in and went on a strop when he wasn't appointed manager. A **** of the highest order.
Watched him play for Wales once got sent off for standing on someones chest , also seen him play for Leeds and was brilliant bit of a enigma depends which mr jones turned up. On a personal level a friend of mine has meet him and said he was the biggest pain in the arse he has ever had to work with and would never do it again
Yeah I remember him playing then too, he had already got eyes on an acting career and we were just paying his wages till that came up. So he couldn't get hurt, get muddy or have his hair rustled. Complete waste of space, time and money. Barton hasn't got acting pretensions has he???
I remember that we did a bit better when he played for us. He had more ball skills than was given credit for. Yes was hard man and all that - but that seemed as much to be about other players coming to prove a point.
I used to get free tickets to watch wimbledon at plough lane when i was in their schoolboys team, he was quite a character in those days , proper crazy gang days ( even went to watch them in the cup final ). Was always available for autogrpahs , photos etc after the game. Mind you saying this was before he became famous and got an inflated ego.
He had a go at Georgi Kinkladze in the tunnel before the game at Man City, you know the one, where Jamie Pollock became an Rs legend can't remember much else.
I was at his first game for QPR years ago...in 1998 if Wikipedia serves me correctly. From what I remember he started, was slow, unfit and got a booking in the first few minutes...then cut his contract short to go and make films. Was utterly unimpressive at QPR.
As I recall it was that ultimate waste of space Stewart Houston who was determined to pee the last of the big time funding down the toilet. I have no fond memories of Jones playing in a QPR shirt but I do remember a time when he was still playing for Winbledon and they were visiting LR on a dreadful midweek evening. The rain was lashing down and the pitch was a quagmire. Wimbledon had a free kick on halfway right in front of the Ellerslie. Jones was trying to find somewhere to place the ball when he looked up at us few hardy souls in the seats, gave his best hard-man grin and said "Anyone got a ****ing spade?".
Razor and Vinnie. The day those two signed for the Club was possibly the lowest point in our history imo. Summed everything up about us at the time. AAAAGh, was that the 0-3 in '95? I was there too. Never seen L R pitch so bad.
Ah Razor Ruddock. When we were bulking up the defence I had no idea that the plan was to basically put in a lump that oppontents would have to run round (which on average took at least 5 mins bearing in mind Razor was a fat lump when he signed.........he made Humpty Dumpty look anorexic!!). Vinny Jones......I know we were lacking someone in the middle that could tackle.......but I am sure that the man in charge (Bobby Gould) wanted him to tackle for the ball and not the man. I am also sure that during a game against Wimbledon, he stood in the middle of two youngsters (one from each team) as they started to fight.
