Iwas just going to say the same thing. The Irony of stating that he felt our football principles were being eroded away and now him having to sit through that rubbish watching us play hoofball a week before we go to Utd ! Surely this was a ploy to not give anything away to man utd right ?
Have I missed something not sure what he has done to warrant that. Just asking as I thought him going was no surprise to the club as they were already lining up a replacement long beforehand. I was also given to beleive on this forum that we were better of without him!! Maybe not (better the devil you kn ow and all that)
Was thinking the same thing, because if Chico is being an unprofessional tit, what will he think of the club who accepted the offer
Chico wrote a lovely letter to the fans on his twiiter account too, very warm and genuine, seems to me he leaves with a heavy heart. Obviously the club were looking to move in a new centre half and to move chico on. We only lost 0-3 today but its a miracle we didn't lose by at least 6 !! Massive work to do defensively, letting good players go will always harm a club like us, shambles today .
Only a friendly guys! Having said that what Monk was thinking with playing 4-4-2 against a Spanish side only he knows, is there some grand scheme here or what?..........
We looked weak down the left and that is where we could well be exploited this season, I did not think 4-4-2 was the right formation against a good team like Villarreal but it was worth trying out as if you don't try in games like these then you will never know. We played some nice football at times but some of our one touch passing let us down on a number of occasions. Overall another good workout that showed monk we need 2 or 3 players still as our defence and left side need shoring up with the loss of Davies and chico but i am quite happy that we will hold our own this season....Now the real work starts...
Considering the amount of subs they used in the second half without them losing shape and without us making any impact this could be one tough season ahead.
Yeah sorry I'm probably being harsh, but as I've said elsewhere I'm annoyed that he's going to Qatar and the timing of the move. Waste of a good player and I'd been under the impression he was one of the Spaniards who would stay. So sorry about that, he's just the first one of that lot leaving that I'm properly annoyed about (Michu maybe)
I too am disappointed he has gone and especially so close to the season starting but he obviously has his reasons (Ferraris aint cheap to run ). That said knowing what we know now I have a feeling he went before he was pushed. Again who knows what goes on behind closed doors at the club, to be honest I never care where players go to because they all have different reasons; cash, progression etc. One thing is for sure he feels its the best move for him and he left with a bit of class. I have a feeling that a lot of fans wont really appreciate what we had until its gone (theres a song in there)
Monk was playing Kenny Jacket football but without the disipline in formation ! The more i think about it the more im thinking this is a system Garry will want to use, otherwise he will have one of Gomis/Bony on the bench pissed off every week, and if he puts them both on then one out of Gylfi or jonjo needs to drop out .
Maybe. I'm not sure I agree that he's done the right thing, and its deffo possible that he was pushed, but I guess we can't know for sure.
Well I hope that was an experiment and Monk will never deploy the 442 again. I thought Ki played well, very confident on the ball and much better than two seasons ago, Gomis looked fantastic, a lot quicker and bigger than I thought and was very skilful on the ball and good holding it up. I am going to say it now, but our weak link this season will be jonjo, all he wanted to do was look for that f**ing Hollywood ball at every opportunity thus slowing our game down. Ash and Bartley also looked very shaky at the back at times and with Gylfi deployed put on the RW he kept coming infield thus giving us no witpdth on the right and let Rangel over run on numerous occasions. Monk should have taken Jonjo off at half time, put Gylfi in the middle with Ki and put someone with pace on the right. As for Montero, well he looked a bag if s**t today, no pace and hardly tried to beat the man except on a few occasions first and second half. If we play like that next week, we will make Utd look like champions. Oh and during the game, I looked right over to the dug out and thought that Laudrup had returned, because all Monk done was sit on his seat in his suit. As much as it pains me, they looked clueless for large parts of the games, and there are plenty if people worried ahead of the new season after that.
The most frustrating thing about this defeat, is that had Michael Laudrup still been here,we could have won.
players come and players go and 99% are here for the money or a foot into the premiership or because no other team are that interested in them. Thats football as they don't give a toss about Swansea as a team or any other city or town in the UK. they see us a living somewhere they can make money and have an above average life style which their aim is to better with every move. Chico will earn a fortune and that has influenced his judgement as he will be forgotten where he is going but that's ok if that's what he wants and he can retire a very rich man. Good luck to him as it was fun while it lasted.
It's been a very long time since I've seen a Swansea team play with no conviction, no idea, no skill and no desire but I saw it today. It was clear at half time that the idea of playing both Bony and Gomis together with Siggy out wide failed miserably, we were completly overrun in midfield and outclassed in almost every department. A long hard season ahead. I can honestly see Monk being moved upstairs and a new coach installed by Xmas.
Disagree Sbulby, if he was to be relived of duties he would have to leave the club all together, and after the way he played today, Jonjo could go with him
As friendlies go I am sure all this taught Monk was what doesn't work. Which is a sobering thought as I would expect a half decent manager to know that by now now with a week to go. That said it is only a friendly and I would like to hope that this is not the grand master plan for the upcoming season. I have mentioned that with Monks knowledge of what was successful for previous managers, he would be in a good position to have a plan b and c. Hope this was plan d and goes straight into file 13 of the playmakers book. On th epositive side, maybe he was expecting Bony to go, hence the Bafi purchase, and thought that while he is here he would try them both together. Better now than next week. Here is to hoping that we go back to what we do best next week because one thing is for sure it wont be "Garry Monks Black and White Army" for long!!
"Swansea were woefully off-colour", (SWEP). Not what we wanted to hear. Monk has his work cut out now,and no mistake. Even though it was "only a friendly", the nature of the performance, and the heavy defeat,is hardly a ringing endorsement of things to come.
