When you consider that Adam Drury cost just £500k back in 2001, it got me thinking about who we all think has been the clubs best 'value for money' signing. Probably best to stick to the most recent 15 years or so as values have of course rocketed! I suspect Holt will get a few nominations but I'll go for Drury. <ok>

    Any other thoughts?

Outside the 15 years I know but for me it has to be Ian Crook.

Hucks and Holt are hard to beat when you consider the huge roles they played in our promotion campaigns. I would pick Holt as the best example, he was the best value striker in the prem last season, cost 26k per goal, when Carrol cost 8 million per goal...

I'd agree with Drury. To be at a club and playing regularly at a high level for 11 years is something special. Especially considering he has been captain and a fantastic pro and great role model. Also throw in Hucks £750,000 a fair bit for Norwich but he was the catalyst for us going up and was our stand out player for several seasons. Also he sacked his agent so he could come, another NCFC legend.

As I was saying on redruths post about the premier league value league it is a very subjective thing. Other than cost, what represents value? It is a very hard question to ask. Also people's idea of best value for money signing will be very different.

Mine would probably be Drury though. Or Fox. I don't know!

Ruddy is already proving a bargain buy - can't remember what we paid for him (was it £500k) but he's gotta be worth a lot more than that now and if (when) he wins his first England cap then his value will increase further.

see what you mean. as an example, take alan shearer for newcastle. £15m was a world record at the time but i'd say they got excellent value for money. doesn't have to relate to someone being cheap <ok>

You could argue for Dean Ashton, bought for £3million, sold for £7million a year later.

Make it a scientific calculator, because you are going to have one hell of an equation to work it out. Goals per game, passes completed, tackles made, fouls, red cards, yellow cards, all need a different weighting according to postion played and then the impact in the dressing room, training ground, on the pitch, etc

Alby as well (his fee was pretty small), he contributed a lot last season.

Holt for me though and his goal return

Not only that, I have to ensure that goals don't give strikers an unfair advantage as obviously defenders don't really score that often!
