Head-to-head
• The overall record between Portugal and the USA is perfectly balanced with two wins each, one draw and five goals apiece.
• The USA won 3-2 in the only previous World Cup meeting, in the 2002 group stage. Current Portugal coach Paulo Bento came on as a substitute in that game.
• There were two own goals in that match - it remains the only time that has happened at the World Cup.
• Jurgen Klinsmann beat Portugal 3-1 when head coach of Germany at the 2006 World Cup in the third-place play-off.
USA
• The USA have managed just two clean sheets in their last 24 World Cup matches.
• They have scored in their last seven World Cup games.
• Clint Dempsey's goal against Ghana was the fifth fastest in World Cup history.
Portugal
• Their only win in the last eight matches at the World Cup was 7-0 over North Korea in 2010.
• Portugal have twice reached the semi-finals in their five previous World Cup appearances.
• Cristiano Ronaldo has scored two World Cup goals from 55 shots.
• He touched the ball just once in Germany's penalty area in the opening group match.

I'll go USA 3-1 POR

Portugal are crippled with injury/suspension and the USA have their tail up after winning the first game.

Lets keep this one going :)

ASA is a type of plastic/polymer, so it's work related too. I'd like Portugal to win so as Ghana still have a chance in the last game of the group.

Personally, I want several big teams knocked out so that England don't look so bad. And I don't like Ronaldo's hair! Not that I'm bitter.

I think the mods should merge both threads...leaving ASA v Portugal as the title<laugh>

Go ASA.

Merged, you can take your pick of which team you would rather play Portugal.

It could have been worse if Saudi Arabia or South Africa were in this World Cup.

1-0 ASA, Jonathan Graan comes on as a sub and scores in the 90th minute.

I think it will be ASA 2-2 Portugal. Really hoping ASA win this one though, and it is possible. However, I'm thinking a draw is more likely.

Is Ronaldo going to be at full strength? I think I saw something about him limping out of a training session, and hopefully they will miss having Pepe available too.

Go team ASA!!

It happened in 2010. Now Nigeria is abbreviated as NGA.

Er, I seem to remember similar comments being made about Suarez. I think you just guaranteed he plays a blinder.

Think this will have to be an ugly defensive game. Hopefully, Bradley can control possession a bit to take the pressure off the back four. Just dribble/pass sideways for as long as you can get away with it, and then when pressed kick it straight to Nani as he is the best chance at stopping Ronaldo from scoring.

I think we score one on the counter, but can't keep the clean sheet. ASA 1 - 1 Portugal. Probably both goals in the first half, leaving Aunt Samantha's Army biting their nails through a tense but ultimately boring second 45 minutes.

Oh Lord I hope not!

I suppose Suarez was a case of having had an operation recently and if he was going to have fully recovered/be match fit enough to play, the answer being obviously yes! With Ronaldo I'm hoping it's more a case of whatever happened to him is still fresh and niggling, and as such preventing him from being as effective.

Wishful thinking I know

Come on Portugal, need them to win so my African Warriors (Ghana) still stand a chance of progression as they have brilliant so far and unlucky, they deserve to go through.

They have been entertaining Boss, but I'm not sure they've been unlucky. Naïve, maybe.

Fair comment buddy! They are naive but I love their style and celebrations when they score!

2-1 and they had two great chances to make it 3-1, naive, but they are great to watch and I would love to see Ghana V Portugal with both playing to win.
