With Man Utd out of he Capital One Cup now at the hands of Chelsea, could this reignite the Tunnicliffe rumours on a loan move to City?
Nevermind Tunnicliffe we should go for that Scott Wootton, excellent defending at the end of normal time to stop Ramirez netting an equalizer, and even better defending in the first half of extra time to stop Sturridge from getting clean through on goal. Made a similar tackle in 2nd half extra time to stop Ramirez getting clean through aswell. Absolutely class, top drawer stuff from the lad.
Another entertaining game to watch, and I thought both young centre backs did OK, got tired towards the end and made a mistake or two, but I guess that is to be expected.
I didn't watch the game live and I know it was against Chelsea, but they did concede 5 goals. Not exactly a brilliant defensive performance. I saw the highlights show and although I wasn't massively paying attention there were some obvious defensive errors.
Two of the goals were penalties and two of the goals were in extra time. David Luiz & Gary Cahill are far more experienced than Wooton & Keane yet they still conceded 3 goals in 90 minutes.
So conceding a penalty is no longer a defensive error, when Wooton pushed him? I would argue Luiz is a defensive liability and cahill is still finding his feet at a big club.
Wootten did make a mistake to gift Chelsea a penalty, but other than that he was outstanding and it was only his third ever appearance for Man United, so I think he can be forgiven one mistake. Any team taking him on loan have got a bloody good player on their hands.
To be fair I was playing devils advocate, without watching a game live it's often hard to ascertain whether a defender had a good game or not. Unless he's shown making multiple mistakes. I can't see us getting in another centre half on loan tbh, but I definitely think we need another option at WB. Seen as Vito sung our praises you'd have thought we'd try and plunder some kids from Arsenal. I know Frimpong has played for the first team a bit, but he's been out injured for a while and he could do an ash like role in midfield for us, with some added dynamism. It would suit them for him to get some games under his belt for a short term loan or whatever.
I thought the young lads at Man U went to pieces a bit but seems like opinion divided on that one- could be good signings at Championship level maybe
