Plenty of teams have won the league Fosse. Adding “premier” to make out you’re in some kind of elite club won’t alter that fact.

You ain’t gonna shoehorn Leicester in Fosse, no matter how hard/often you try.

Tempted to do some frantic googling to see how many points that lot have taken off Tottenham in the last few seasons, but cba. Wouldn’t be negligible though…

Mate if the criteria was "taken points off of Tottenham", there'd be around 50 teams in the PL <laugh>

As it is, the criteria is "clubs people give a toss about". And though it is no doubt painful to hear, if the likes of Southampton and Leicester disappeared tomorrow, no-one outside of their immediate fanbases would really care. Some might not even notice until February.

Tbf that could be said of any club being relegated. Did we think about Newcastle when they were relegated? Would we think about Everton 6 months from now if they had? Sad reality is that PL supporters won't give it much thought unless it happens to be a direct rival.

I’m under no illusions that we’d be missed if we got relegated again. Question I ask myself is, how much would I miss the PL? Some of the football in the Championship and even League One is surprisingly good, the crowds may be smaller but the atmosphere is generally rowdier, and wittier. And there’s no ****ing fire canons before kick off.

More so than other clubs, yes. The Toon are a huge club and their fans are generally top notch - I certainly noticed their absence and when it came to asking who people would like to see promoted, they were close to if not top of that list.

As for Everton, you'd definitely notice if the Merseyside derby suddenly stopped happening. And as 'ever presents' with a pretty huge history, I do think fans of other clubs would notice (and care) if they vanished. I know plenty of Spurs fans who didn't want them to drop for those reasons.

On the other hand there are clubs who are genuinely vanilla. Not much history, no real big rivalries, just there to make up the numbers vibe. Don't get me wrong, I've nothing against the likes of Brentford, Southampton, Leicester, Brighton or Palace, but if they vanished tomorrow I don't think it would be talked about for more than 5 minutes, forget 6 months.

I've long thought League 1 is one of the toughest leagues in world football.

Cba finding it but I read a report that the points spread from first to last place is one of the most concentrated in Europe (on average), while the fixture round when significant positions (champions, promotion, play-offs and relegation) are decided tends to be among the latest in Europe.

Case in point: the points gap between Wigan (1st) and Ipswich (11th) was the same as the gap between City (1st) and Spurs (4th).

League 2 tends to be even tighter, but the reality is the football isn't much good anymore at that level.

I doubt any non-Toon or their rival posted about Newcastle when they were relegated on the PL board tbh. And that's often true of most clubs being relegated. I'd say the only thing ppl missed about Newcastle was the pantomime around Mike Ashley.

You're probably right about the merseyside derby but I honestly don't think it's either entertaining or competitive given its one sided nature over the past 10-15 yrs. It's all subjective so I would probably miss Southampton more.

There are vanilla clubs, but there are a lot of clubs who aren't vanilla that unfortunately are forgotten about, only because the fans of most PL clubs tend to just focus on who's in the PL and are too heavily invested in those games to care.

If I had to choose one between Newcastle and Sunderland because let’s be honest only one deserves a spot from them ends in the ultimate 20, then it would have to be Sunderland…trying football the proper way…sticking with it. One must respect that….unlike the Toon who have always come across as a fanbase who would happily sell their souls to the devil regardless of how it damages the game they claim to love.

West Ham would be alongside Spurs and Arsenal as the 3 main London clubs…Chelsea, in my humble opinion do not deserve a spot because they have achieved their modern day status and attracted their attention in world football by cheating…it’s not hard to do…it’s not football…excluded.

Plus I’m more than happy to welcome Stockport County or Oldham Athletic over Man City…same reasons as Chelsea and Toon above

When I said back in 2010…they don’t deserve respect and credit…I meant it and now we include Toon in that.

However this still leaves no room for Lesta who feel obliged to barge in due to their recent skirmishes with fun moments in the top flight.

to those I would add (in terms of) :

    1. fond memories of them having had some success or
    played decent football

    - Forest
    - Ipswich
    - WBA

    2. always seemed to have been around in the top flight

    - Coventry
    - Sheffield Wednesday

No real names jumping out at me for the final two.

I don't know if you watched the Notts County v Grimsby National League game, but the quality was outstanding for it's level. Far better than most teams in L2.

National League has practically become a graveyard of old league teams now, and potential investors are looking ie such as Wrexham.

I went to Stonebridge Road (home of Ebbsfleet) a while back and I was amazed at the quality of the playing surface for a conference league south club. Discussions with others who regularly attend matches at that level, say Ebbsfleet is about par for the course.
The days of ploughed fields and washed up old pros are long gone.

Check the thread title Gutsy ... completely omitting a team that has won it recently, (when only 7 have in it's history) is a bit special ... agree Derby should be in it mind... they still hold an all time PL record ... least points in a full PL season <laugh>
