Alright lads, seems like MMA is the latest fad to emerge recently and has certainly taken the N/E by storm (its hard to go out, without bumping into a lad wearing a skin tight Tap Out tshirt)

Anyway, after the Newcastle Liverpool match, I'm heading over to a mate's to watch the big fight tonight, with BIG being the operative word...

As well as Sunderland's Ross Pearson fighting (he won The Ultimate Fighter against a load of American lads) there's a MASSIVE fight between 2 freakishly big men in English born Alistair Overeem and ex-WWE wrestler Brock Lesnar. Overeem is making his UFC debut after pretty much destroying everyone in every other MMA competitions. Lesnar is returning after having an operation on his intestine, before which he was terrifying!

Here's a clip of the build up:

Whether you like the sport or not, like the superbowl, Haye V Klitchko, The World Cup, Wimbledon or the Crucible final, this will be great television!

Anyone staying up to watch it? Anyone completely turned off by it all? Anyone not give even the slightest of ****s?

Don't mind fighting sports but won't be watching. Lesnar though is a beast especially in his WWE days so I would back him to win.

I hate UFC naturally as im a boxing fanatic and even moreso the idiots who were the Affliction and Tap Out gear along with the fake tan they dunk themselves in. However I can appreciate the extreme lengths the fighters go to in order to compete <ok> But the 'fans' are dicks. IMO.

It's like gay porn to me. Boxing rules.

Lesnar got sparked of a guy half his size for the title last time I watched.

Aye, for me UFC was one of those things I really didn't want to like (for the same reasons you've just named) however, I got quite into it when Kurt Warburton got into the UFC (He's from Coundon, but says he fights out of Bishop Auckland) when he's not training he'd be up in the Forresters and is generally a sound lad. I'd go to his local for a lock in to watch his fights and the atmosphere was amazing. Like any sport I think you need a vested interest to get into it and with a few N/E lads starting to make a name for themselves it was easier to get excited by it.

I'd agree with what you're saying on the fan front, but that's like a rugby fan saying they don't like football because of the fans...Some are ****ing idiots, there's many more who just like the sport.

I'd rather watch the UFC Heavy Weight division 10x over the current Boxing HW division. Haye's defeat to Klitchko just proved that exciting fighters aren't always successful ones. The HW Boxing division is predominantly fat ****s walking into Klitchko's jab, and thats it!

Loving the Welterweight/Lightweight divisions...wish they'd sort out a Mayweather Pacman fight whilst both fighters are worth watching though!

My money is Overeem, his striking is ridiculous, K1 (Kickboxing's primary world competition) Grand Prix champion, ex Pride Champion, ex Strike Force Champion. He has proven himself time and time again. Having said that, with the size of the lads, one flush punch from either and its all over!

Never seen the appeal of watching people physically attack each other, think I'll give it a miss!

First at Featherweight and he looks a little ill after making the drop...Hasn't worked out for him in the past few matches though so hopefully he'll find his niche!

Hopefully this new weight will be better for him but that kid who just won the ultimate fighter (Brazilian) at feather weight looks like a machine. could cause havoc in that division like.

I'll be watching as i do for all UFC events. it's a fascinating fight between Lesnar and Overeem as Overeem has great striking coming from a kick boxing background, but Lesnar has great wrestling. I definitely think Overeem will win by TKO, Lesnar doesn't like getting hit, and if he stays standing, he'll get KTFO!

Nate Diaz v Donald Cerone will be a brawl, can see it getting Fight of the night.

Can see Pearson getting defeated by decision.

Anyone know what's happening with UFC and ESPN? Someone said it's changing channel.

I love MMA - I only wear tapout gear when I'm sparring (rashguard, shorts etc) never when I'm out and about coz i'd look a nob. And I'm pasty as **** so no fake tab for me ha.

I can't watch boxing now as all I see are huge gaps to head for a takedown and it frustrates me.

I met Ross Pearson at Total Combat 34 at Rainton Arena, top bloke!

Got that **** in record tonight though as I'm at work tomorrow - sad face!

Lesnar's style is to go mental and pressure you straight away but he gasses out quick. So if Overeem can keep Brock at arms length I can see an easy Overeem win!

Haven't heard owt about UFC changing channel like. That's bad news though, it would suggest PPV.

Pearson is highly skilled, will finish it in the 3rd after kickboxing the hell out of him in round 1,2. Lesnar will take overeem down and punch him out (if he doesn't take a knee first). Cerrone and Diaz is a toss up.
