You neededto give it more of a go. Sweden defend, defend, defend, defend, defend. No confidence in England though - just don't look like scoring.

    England were ****ing ****.

Didn't deserve to win anything playing like that.

You can't help but get the impression that some people are disappointed if England win.

Sweden didn't seem to do anything but try to stop us scoring all match. England didn't play well but they did try to score and eventually did - there was nought to shout about but they did try and as an englishman I was glad they won as always.

Well, we would've been well happy with 1 point, so no point in going out firing against a more skillful team and I think we were the better team for parts of the game.

Considering England pretty much had to win the game....not impressed :)

I reckon you'll go on with the Portugese anyway.

Fair enough. Seen us (City) approach (too) many games like that this season too. Too often with the same result.
Not impressed by England either but glad with the result. Just wish we took it seriously like the Germans and played our best available team including the likes of Wiltshire, Shaw, Barkley, Sterling & Oxlade Chamberlain.

    Why?

England played ****, they were lucky the other team were just as bad. If City played like that I'd have the same response and most people on here probably would too.

I want England to win, but I want England to also prove they are improving as a side and getting better overall, rather than put in sub-par performances nearly every single time they step onto the pitch. The latter of those two points they fail at miserably.

You would have the same response to City? If City win with an injury time own goal I am happy. If they lose 5-4 after playing scintillating football I am pissed off. Same with England.
If I want to sit back and enjoy a spectacle I can watch two top teams I have no connection with and just enjoy the football on display. Supporting you local club or national team is all to do with results not fancy performances.

Anyone going to fancy continuing to defend them?

same old faults, clueless manager, just a yes man put in place by the FA who hasn`t got the foggiest how to properly manage a talented bunch of individuals, and encourage them to show their skills, why do we have to put up with clowns like Southgate and these bunch of tossers at the FA, they should rebrand under their full title KFA... know f*ck all

    Geeeeeeeeet in!

How come the U21 hardly get any recognition in the press in the UK in general? (From what I've noticed).
They're almost as popular (if not more popular) than the national team (also before the tournament)

And like the senior team they miss whatever chances they create against top opposition!

By the way - and this had no effect on tonight's result - anyone notice the Italian RB committing foul throws all game? He always had one foot off the floor!

So you are happy with an entertaining defeat? A few dour 1-0 wins wouldn't have gone amiss last season.

Is that why they call it the "beautiful game?"

Supporters want their team to win. Spectators aren't as bothered.

If I was listing my all time favourite games, they'd include the likes of Sheffield United 3-2 Hull City. Obviously losing all the time is no fun, but I'm quite happy with the odd entertaining defeat, I'd hate to just win ugly all the time.

Southgate wants to stay as U21 manager......no **** he does, cushy job out of the spot light, shame he's a poor poor manager innit. Doesn't seem to matter at what level we play, we seem to have the same style and sadly poor performances. Until fundamental changes are made at grass roots in the way football is coached and taught nothing will change.

I disagree. They got a lot when they beat the Germans last Winter at Middlesbrough. They got a lot when they qualified, as they do every time they achieve the same feat. And they get a lot when the best players make it to the senior side- there was a lot of speculation about whether Kane, Berahino, Sterling, Wiltshere etc would play in the U21s or the senior side.

The tournament is always on the telly.

All immaterial in the end, because they've let themselves down again.
