This afternoon's result is, of course, typical. For all the talk of not taking the opposition lightly, it appeared that that's exactly what we did. From the moment the goal was disallowed I thought 'this is not going to be our day' and playing thirteen men for the entire first half (that's got to be the worst refereeing performance I've seen in a long time) didn't help. HAving said that, we were very poor. We missed Hudson's authority, Taylor was Nayloresque at times and Nugget's distribution shows that his days are numbered. Adding to that: Peter Whittingham's worst performance (at centre back it seems) for a long time — can Nathan Blake stop blithering on about making him captain after that, please —, not playing Mason and an attitude from most that seemed to suggest that all we needed to do was turn up and it's little wonder we lost. P'boro fully deserved their victory and for all our missed chances they missed a few themselves. It could have/ should have been four to them before the end ... at least. Anyway, things seem to be going our way even when they're not, if you know what I mean. Palace throwing away a two goal lead just goes to show (as we know only too well) that anything can happen in this league. Two massive games coming up.... Leicester away, six pointer v Palace. We win both and we're very much back on track. However, we could easily lose these two, giving fodder to those who love to tag us 'bottlers'. It's going to be a massive Christmas.
Due to work commitments couldnt make this game, Thanks for the update !!!! Heres hoping that was the result that refocuses our commitment and stops us getting ahead of ourselves.
If we were going to lose any of the games coming up this was the best one. still gutted though. How are they bottom?
everyone was blaming the ref, he dropped a few clangers but we were poor from basically the first minute to the last, though we did push for the winner towards the end. we made posh look like barcelona, when they are for me a very limited team. their number 8 had the freedom of the CCS to control the game and pick out passes at will, the defence as a unit was poor but mcnaughton had a stinker, and showed why he shouldnt be allowed near the starting 11 in the future, an error strewn performance which has become the norm for what was once a very good player for us. overall a mediocre performance, reminds me of hull last season where we got done 3-0.
Agree 100%. I hope we sell Nugget while we can get something for him. He's been utterly heroic over the years and until quite recently was one of the first names on the team sheet. However, he's nowhere near the player we need him to be now; I also think he knows it. I think it's true to say that ref's first half performance was diabolical and could — just— have made the difference; but it should not be an excuse and neither am I using his performance as one. WE were arrogant and thought we could just turn up. I think netting in the first five minutes made matters worse becasue we all thought 'well, iut's just a matter of time before we get a 'legit' goal. I hope Malky sees it as it was and gives them a proper arse kicking. Mind you, he sholud have a word with himself as well after today.
We seemed to lack a bit of bite in the middle of the park. I think we needed Gunnar in the middle from the off. My fear was the difficulty of breaking down their 5 in the middle and we didn't seem to get behind them often enough to expose their back 3 and when we did we missed a goal poacher (possibly for one of the few times this season).
My mum said Kevin was awful and I knew he would be he's been poor for last 2 seasons!!! I said soon as Hudson was suspended that Nugent should play centre back... Poor team performance and we need Velikonja on the bench having Gustede come on is swapping a like for like...we need a plan B
If Ferguson had come and parked the bus, he knew they'd have had no chance of keeping us out. I was far more worried when I realised he'd come to have a go. Despite the disallowed goal, it didn't look right from the start. We were all over the place. Collectively a shambles and with some very poor individual performances. Not just MacNuggs who was dreadful and looked as bad as Kiss did when he came on for him against Hull, but the whole midfield was ineffective. Whitts had his worst game for a long time - Cowie couldn't get a grip on the proceedings at all, and out wide, Noone and Conway got little change for their efforts. Up front Helguson missed some half decent chances (yes I know I'm saying it again!) that a Maynardesque player would have buried. The bright point was at the other end of the pitch. Marshall saved us from a possible burying. Some of the refereeing and lino decisions were dreadful, particularly some of the flagging of Bellamy offsides. However, although it didn't help, Posh won the game fair and square on the day - no complaints about them. Ferguson got the tactics right and we came off a poor second best. Three points and the home record gone, but not the end of the world by a long chalk.
Def not the end of the world Sparkey...One bad game thats all. Home record had to go at some point and rather it went yesterday than in the next one Still top of the table but looking at some of the comments elsewhere you'd swear we were relegated yesterday 10 from 10 is consigned to the history books now and a good "we're unbeatable at home" kick up the arse reality check for a lot of the players. Some looked too complacent yesterday and was too late by the time they realised they were in a game... if they did at all. Taking nothing away from Posh. They did what they had to do and did it well at times and we didnt do what we had to and did that even better (???)
I tuned in online to watch this game as currently in bad health at home. To put it politely, you were awful. I'v seen a few of your games this season, and this was dire compared to them. I think your guys on the pitch just exppected to turn up and roll them over, a little like what our lads did V Norwich. Everybody has their slip, and this was yours. Your still looking good for auto this year though, keep it up.
