They're just not practical whilst on a beach or round a pool. I'd feel like I'd need a jumper tied round my neck wearing such footwear.
If you're waddling off to get an ice cream in a really hot country you will burn your feet on the sand or step on some sharp stuff possibly. Your brown deck shoes will get full of sand and stink after a few days .

You scald your feet on hot sand. Flip flop far more practical. Also at night it's easier to keep cool not having shoes and socks on. I may get a slightly smarter pair of flip flops for the evening. Where's everyone ****ing off to on their hols this year?
