The (14:45) at Southwell, a Class-4 Handicap Chase over an extended 3m. on good ground, (which could change as currently there are very heavy rain showers in the course region). Regardless, the Yeats gelding, Tom Creen, has a very good chance of winning this affair carrying the bottom weight of 10-13. Wears tongue-strap as in previous races. Mr Tom Broughton (5) on board for the Sam England stable. 3/1 (Wm.Hill) best price early-doors on the ATR site.
7 picks today, 3rd day of showing my new R.S. (Rather Strange) system. So far it's been 0 winners from 6, then 1 from 4. If I don't get a winner today it'll be back to the drawing board on the grounds of winner paucity. A horrible disease. Another winner. Have you noticed anything different about the ones that win that could lead to some refinement. Haven't a clue how you are arriving at these selections. Given that one was a debutant, it obviously isn't form based
You're right, Ron, it ain't form based. I did slightly loosen my criteria for picks today (and yesterday), otherwise I'd have had no picks at all. The original criteria is very narrow. And I haven't yet worked out whether that's necessary, except I'm getting loadsa boring losers when loosening - but the occasional good winner. There was 6/1 for The Big Lense right across the Oddschecker board when I posted this morn, and it was pretty strongly backed into 7/2 at the off. I wondered why, as I saw it dawdling round at the back for nearly the whole race, but in the end it was a nicely timed run by Alex Chadwick from the last hurdle that ensured a snatched victory. Could easily have been foiled though. Thought the ride by Jonjo O'Neill junior on my pick Glimpse of Glory in the previous race was uncharacteristically bad. The horse must have thought he was trying to send it to sleep for most of the race, and when he finally got going it took an age for him to unwind, and the late rally to finish second was far too belated. Anyhow, even-stevens on the day, -3.5 after 3 days. Just 2 winners from 17 picks.
Won easily at 2/1 fav, SP. A sprinter with quite a turn of foot! (Earlier selection, Tom Creen, was running quite well until nearly brought-down by a faller. Had no chance after that, although even with a problem-free run, he would not have troubled the eventual winner, an outsider who won it easily)
