Day one of the Punchestown Festival and I'm fancying the Gordon Elliot horse Petit Mouchoir @ 5/1 in the Goffs Landrover bumper. Greatrex has Bon Enfant over and is sure to go well. Mullins obviously has the current fave St Stephens Green but for the love of god Willie let someone else have a go...show some compassion
The 5:30 at Punchestown looks ridiculously competitive, many in with a chance but i'm going for one of the two or three that appear to have little or no chance and thats Oscar Hill at 33/1. I'm a big fan of the jockey Tom O'Brien and i'm willing to part with a couple of quid ew for a bit of interest.
Two potential absolute superstars on show tomorrow DOUVAN and the mighty DON POLI. Regulars will know I was bigging up the later all season for the RSA and he absolutely murdered them up the hill, like I always knew he would. Both understandly are prohibitedly short priced but as neither owe me a penny I've doubled them up at 4/5. Hardly earthshatteringly original stuff I'm afraid! The Champion Chase typical of current 2m open chases is far from vintage and in fact looks very poor tbh. As I've backed HIDDEN CYCLONE 7/2 expect Champagne Fever, the old grey rogue, to bolt up! STH has already flagged up Elliott's PETIT MOUCHOIR in the Land Rover Goff's Bumper and it's already been backed from 7s to 5s this evening. Tellingly Gordon Elliott tipped it up on a preview programme shown over the weekend.
The final last hurrah of the NH season and loads of grade one races. Really looking forward to it and thankfully i'm on gardening leave at the moment so can watch the lot. I put my bets up the other night so that's the short priced certs taken care of. I've not seen the preview thing Beef's mentioned but i see ATR have it on the telly at 11.30 this morning so will make time for that. I'll have a couple of little bets throughout the day: Cool Macavity 18/1 St Stephens Green 9/2
SOME ARTICLE @ 12/1 in the 4.55 - needed every yard to win at Fairyhouse but quickened up well at the death and this slightly stiffer test could enable him to keep ahead of the handicapper at a track he has won around twice before. Probably be Sizing Europe's last race today so will have a small sentimental e/w although I think today will be the day that Felix Younger shows himself to be the high class horse he has threatened to be!!
Not much of a betting proposition today for me. The 2 shorties should oblige, i hope that Flemstar bypasses todays race and goes for the gold cup as i think this will be far too sharp for him. In the 2 miler i like Twinlight, Ruby has a "thing" with Champagne Fever so was always going to favour him. Twinlight can be hard to predict but theres no denying that he is top class when on song with the beating of Mallowney when giving him weight proving that.
My cliff horses today are Twinlight and Apache Stronghold. I backed Don Poli at the Festival and have no doubt he will win, but my money went on AS in the hope that DP wouldn't turn up! I wave a white flag at all the other races
The Champion Novice hurdle might be the worst race of all time. Would like to see Hidden Cyclone get that Grade 1 but Mallowney at 7/1 looked the bet in the only decent race of the day.
Punchestown week usually a poor one for me with all the mullins hotpots Gone with Henry Higgins in the 4.55. Could not resist Flemenstar e/w @18's with Bet 365 earlier and am on Burrow Lane in the last
I know its a tuesday but still quiet on here for start of punchy festivel! Here's my darts:treble pays roughly 3s. 3.40- enda bolger is the king of the banks here and with nina on board wish ye didnt can get the treble off to a good start.already into 4/5 from 6/5 4.20- douvan wins, 2nd leg of treble.will also do a douvan/sizing john forecast 4.55-extremely difficult handicapp to solve.the plan man/some article both 14s ew 5.30-I was tempted to back hidden cyclone but I think mallowney can bounce back from a poor run at fairyhouse now its better ground and davy russell is back on board 6.05-gordan elliot is having a cracking season and im taking petit mouchoir to get the better of the mullins hotpot 6.40-don poli win last leg of treble 7 15-another difficult one for punters to solve.going with the market here and taking coeur joyeux to come out on top
E.W. double, both horses trained by Ian Williams. 3:45 Nottingham Mr Bissto @4/1 4:15 Nottingham Diaktoros @4/1
Took Paddy Power Special offer of 7/4 for Wish Ye Didn't and Don Poli double. Looks good now but not counting any chickens.
He is a class act that's for sure. It's ashame he's in the same ownership as Faugheen, as he could beat him as he hurdles a lot better
