Let me correct that, the dumbest person to ever be elected to congress She's twice as thick as Bush Not an overstatement #CrazyEyesCortez please log in to view this image
Interesting set of results. Republicans increase majority in Senate. Democrats close to winning the house. Both sides crowing. Trump won Senate seats in the key swing states that got him elected in 2016.
what is pretty remarkable is the fact Reps have done so well given the wall to wall media non stop villification since 2016.
I think trump is quite happy as he will be seeing the vote that got him elected is still there and he has a shot at 're election. The congress elections were the full set and the democrats have won the projected majority, even maybe the high end of projections. The Senate had far more democrat Senate seats up for re-election than republicans but they have actually lost big time
Great outcome. Shame that the senate has not turned like the House of R. It is high time Trump is curbed. Americans are waking up to the fact that their president is taking them into a disastrous direction. Next, making sure he is booted out in 2020 . Or even before.
Which direction is that exactly? Apart from healthcare, which I think should be universal (even though that means much less quality, and Obama's HC drove up private premiums by 100% or more), what bad direction(s) do you mean?
fascism? I can see the wrong democrat candidate.costing them 2020. I can see a spate.of trump investigations and trump forcing through every appointment possible now. it'll be a decisive 2 years
Fascism? If you are going to throw around that sort of word around, I'd like examples of this fascism you speak of lol I hope you are not one of those that actually believes fascism is purely a right wing thing? Fascism is a set of actions that anyone can take regardless of political leanings #antifa
I did put the ? as a question You are right that while the term itself is inextricably linked to right wing there are many just and intolerant and hateful left wingers who would force thier views on others.
fair enough matey. I think Trump is taking the country in many of the same bad directions that Obama Bush Clinton Bush Reagan took the country, in fact all of my major issues with Trump is those very same directions his predecessors took. Pity most liberals are too ****in blinkered to see this is fact and the media are largely to blame for this hyper partisanship. They are driving anger and hate to levels I've not seen in my lifetime in the western world on the whole
It is interesting that personal views on Trump depend on your politics. I've just been to the states for a few weeks. It is obvious that he has a core support who is incredibly loyal and for whom he could do no wrong. This core support does not believe ANYTHING negative about him. Russia interference, his own behaviour with various women, hush payments via his lawyers: everything is believed to be fabricated by a hostile media. I met people who said that every single thing negative is fake. As to the bad direction, where do I start: politics of division, confrontation, hate and aggression rather than conciliation discussion and unity. Climate change? leadership from the US? MAGA? does all this inward looking attitude make the US great again? or just petty and relinquishing the leadership of the west. To be fair, he has been elected by the people of the US. Which does not say much about democracy as the ultimate form of government. When we try to promote democracy to countries with dictatorships (left and right), all they need to do is to point to the US and say: " is this type of ruler you want us to have?"
The whole system works on the idea that everyone is right and wrong... negotiate and laws are made...and an acceptance that occasionally the other side will be strong enough to out through a lot of what you may not like. It doesn't work when one side has evangelicalised (sometimes literally) their base where they are wilfully ignorant, refuse to accept evidence based arguments and wilfully undermine their own previously stated values..... just because.. You can't have a discussion with someone who has embraced a reversal of the species evolution ...
Just to point out on this comment The results: Republicans gained Missouri, they are going to win Indiana. They will not win ohio. This means trump visited and targetted these as key places "to win" and he's returned 2 of the 3 he visited on last day. Obviously i have not looked where else he visited i nthe last 2 weeks. I just find it interesting that he is able to trun out the vote even if the accusation of talking to the converted. rallys and visiting clearly works. BTW he also held in those key swing states from 2016. They elected him and now have backed him again. While this is a bit of a reversal the message is Trump will sign all the executive orders he needs to get things done. he will push all the appointments he feels like through the senate so he clearly feel this is no issue RIGHT NOW. I think they will pass the budget this year so it will be this time next year when the next budget will crash down and he won't be too bothered. he will blame them and force something through. Unless the democrats find a very very good acceptable candidate for the conservative middle ground theres a very decent chance he can get re-elected based on this. Its just his tactics (not necessarally message) clealry works for him. He vacated his post for weeks campaigning here and got his result to his mind. If he can swing states or keep i should say the states that do swing in general elections he doesn't need to care what the east coast and west coast say. Indiana, Ohio, florida, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin.. those will be where next presidental election will be won or lost.
I see trump has also been very specific about which republicans he chose to campaign for and says 9 out of 11 got elected and his Senate majority is historic. It's not about republicans it's about him Also he made a speech which outside the miraculous economy stuff was virtually identical to Obama about working together. I found that funny.
