I see West Ham had David Carney and Juca on trial on Monday - maybe one of those two if they didn't win a deal? On a side note - How many players does Allardyce want? His signings are crazy - he already had Cole, Piquionne, Nouble and Sears, he then signed Carew, Baldock and Montenegro... plus, he only plays 1 striker! He already had a midfield of - Nolan, Collison, Noble, Faubert and O'Neil, then added Taylor, Bouba Diop, Bentley and Lansbury!
In theory they should walk the Championship this season. But thats not always how it works. Although I would fancy Allardyce with those players to be one of the top 2!
