Apparently we need to offload players before we can sign any, so who should we be looking to offload and who should we bring in
I would try to get rid of Oli,Simon King,Rance,Essan, Stefan Payne and Rooney if he doesn't hurry up and sign, and bring in Kuffour,Nouble again on loan and buy Marshall from Barnet
The question really has to be "who would another team want?" It is easy to identify people who fans would like to move on but that is just wishful thinking. Players move on for better contracts or more secure employment but clubs have got to want them otherwise Gills just have to honour the existing contract. So other clubs will definitely want our best players, but fans would not want to see them go. Nevertheless there must be a probability that a couple out of J Payne/Jackman/Whelpdale/Lee attract the attention of bigger clubs and obviously Rooney is likely to move. We also know that Nouble will go and Kuffour is a departure unless we buy him. Of the rest Oli might see his future elsewhere but who would want him with his injury record? Simon King is sadly, but not unexpectedly, not the Simon King of 3 years ago but must be more likely to expect a golden handshake for retirement. Spiller and Birchall are unemployable at present and Montrose might be surplus but he offers something different and could still be a real asset. That leaves Fish and SPayne who are inexpensive youngsters trying to find their way as pros. Spayne might have had long enough but anyone who saw him against Bournemouth would have to recognise the first real signs of improvement. So all that boils down to the liklihood of losing someone we don't want to lose, the loanees going home and Oli going back to non league if anyone wants him . That might leave enough in the budget to pay for a striker who might be Kuffour.
I would not get rid of Stefan Payne, I think Rooney, Oli, Essam, Rance and Fish would be gone if it was up to me, but if Rooney signs up just the other 4 and then I would bring in Kuffour, Nouble on loan if possible and a Right back who is good. If I could not get Nouble, I would bring in a nippy winger.
no point getting rid of essam & rance, they'll be on such little money it wont fund anyone half decent, and they have got potential
