If it's to be believed that Mark Hughes has £30,000,000 to spend as quoted in some papers, that means we would have spent £50,000,000 in two seasons and that does not include the wages. Who would have thought that possible 3-4 years ago?
Lots of clubs waste good money on sh**e players. In fairness, most of our duds have not cost a fortune. Just think of Benitez and Liverpool and you will get my drift. Or 28 mil for veron or 50 mil for Torres etc etc. Great to see Beard saying that our transfer policy was CRAP last season. The club saying what most fans know. The fact that they are determined not to do the same again is another encouraging sign.
I suppose in the big picture of the total business of QPR, £6.5m is not a huge amount to 'waste' (sorry SWP - though he did create the 1st goal at The Etihad!). All businesses waste money because people and systems are not perfect. You take the hit, learn some lessons and move on.
I'm sure some of you know the figures but isn't being in the Premier League worth about £40 million a year? This may put the expenditure in context. A figure showing us spending £20 million certainly looks credible. Of course, the wages are extra so, notwithstanding the increase in revenue, I'm sure we made a big loss last year. Thank God our owners are prepared to support their habit. Apart from SWP, who I think will improve, the purchases generally look pretty good value to me.
I'm sure we only paid around 4 million for SWP, but then I think we also paid nearer 4 million for Ferdinand. I can see us spending big in the next couple of years before the fair play rules come in, because then we are really going to be in for a tough time, especially with funding needed for a new stadium.
£4m for SWP and £3m for Ferdinand. The rest seem pretty close apart from the 900k we got for Gorkss.
