He's a purely defensive midfielder, always has been, and as long as he's only asked to do that I think he'll do well for us. Maybe more was expected of him at the other clubs?
The defense needs all the help it can get - and they have a classy assistant in DP. It could even be a good opportunity to get him back permanently. No matter what, there will be additional payments due on him, so west ham may be prepared to wash there hands of him come the summer. Especially since their revenue will have a scary increase. If he can repair his fractured relationship with the hierarchy this could be an exciting step. I still think he's capable of the jump up.

I don't know what role they asked him to play, he can only play one way, as a defensive mid just in front of the back 4, always has done and he's damn good at it. Shunt him around a la Cousins you lose a good player.
