J.Williams issues here....... http://www.twtd.co.uk/forum/333938/looking-likely-jonny-williams-cant-join-on-loan...
Looks like Varney is set to sign on loan, NOT happy about this, shows real lack of ambition imo, typical Mick player, works hard but zero quality!! I wish him luck but ffs!!
Spanish like you I am not happy about this signing either. That said, Noel Hunt has been a good signing and it could simply be cover for him if he's out for a while? I don't think Varney will see a great deal of action with Murphy, McGoldrick and Sears around the joint anyway!
not being funny Spanish, but its Mick type of players that has taken us from rock bottom to close on promotion in the space of 2 1/2 years
It will be difficult to get excited or inspired over this signing (if it happens) given the names we have been linked with previously.. namely Wood & Murray Mick has previously said that he only wants to sign players "that are better than what we already have" which is all very subjective but it's clear that Varney's main role whilst being here is to be an 'extra body' as opposed to adding a bit of quality.
For what it's worth, I'd rather have Varney than Sammon. Bit of pace, and workrate. Sammon was an absolute disgrace for us when I saw him, chased the ball five seconds too late etc. At least Varney would open up space for others. Well said Guru, in just over two years with 15 games to go we're 3 points off top and god knows what'll happen. Give me whatever Mick would like over the past two clueless idiots.
Looks like he's going to join intime for the Reading game reading TWTD. Seems N.Hunt is out a while, Marriott isn't what we need. Will McGoldrick be fit for this important tie!? If true, welcome to a club containing many a cast off. Good opportunity to get your career back on track...... Billy Sharp, you would have definitely got your chance with town but decided to stay with Leeds. Please don't score in our impending fixture. Thank you.
Is Varney any good? That's what we should be asking, he obviously cant get a game at Blackburn and whenever Ive seen him play hes been anonymous so even if hes here just to warm the bench, whats the point?
That is ultimately the crux of the issue (certainly my concern with the deal).. If the only thing he is an 'extra body' I'd rather give Mcqueen a seat on the bench.
Well I think it's a good thing that Mick is trying to get cover in. Who knows who's available right now, or who is willing to join us on the terms on offer but at least Mick is addressing the situation and trying to give us every chance to stay top six/finish top two. Will have to see how Varney turns out if he does join but I'm sure he can make a contribution. Regardless of how bad some may think Sammon was, he made contributions to games and assisted in our current points tally, I hope Luke can do the same.
My understanding is that he is initially here to cover for the injury to Noel Hunt.. Which, when Hunt recovers will mean Varney will drop to 5th choice striker. (probably without kicking a ball for us) I am happy to be proven wrong on this as every one who dons the Ipswich shirt deserves the support of the fans. But I don't see the strategic decision behind this signing as was evident in all of Mick's other transfer dealings
I think with Goldy being out as well as Hunt it just leaves Sears and Murphzinho as our fit strikers.......personally I would have no problem with Lightning McQueen getting bench time but as I've said before....Mick knows best.
Guilty me Lord... "but we have not seen him play yet" He is not a top quality signing therefore he must be ****e. "We can't afford top quality signings" Ohh!
If Mick and Terry believe that they can get the best out of him while he is here then that's good enough for me! They haven't seen us wrong many times since they have been here!
