I don't know some of the names mentioned here, but... Striker I'd like us to try for Deeney. Think he'd be a great partner for Defoe and would help bring all the other wide forwards/ attacking mids in to play. Centre-back Klose a good fit for what we need Attacking Mid unearth some gem Right back Yedlin + a proper right back
I can't see West Ham letting him go. Their fans love him and I think he's a bit of a favourite of Bilic's.
I hope we don't go for Carroll. He's ok as far as blunt instruments go but he's not much of a footballer, he'd have been useless to us this season for example as he's too slow to link up and we barely got any crosses in. If Sam's going for the big guy little guy thing then it'd make more sense but I still think he'd be a poor choice. Add to that he's a die hard Newcastle fan and it's a firm no from me.
Think he is a good forward on his day and i would have had him in the squad for the Euro's, offers something different. A definite no for SAFC though, i don't even think he would entertain the idea of coming to Sunderland being a die hard black n whiter.
What he does well he does very well but he's a limited footballer. Might be useful for England if they decide to play long ball for whatever reason, he is good in the air. Just not anywhere else.
Actually, he's got 23 in 77. And 9 in 24 this season. He's not a prolific goalscorer but then as the type of player he is that isn't necessarily his function. He holds the ball up very well, he is difficult to mark, he is good in the air, providing knock downs and flick ons. His goalscoring figures are similar to Niall Quinn's in the Premier League; I take he didn't do very well either.
16 in 53 according to Wikipedia. Quinn had Phillips, who has Carroll got? He's never formed a partnership like that. Quinn was the master of flick ons to his strike partner, Carroll is not.
Football isn't played like that anymore. Very few sides play 442 so he's never going to have a single partner. Carrol brings whoever is running past him from West Ham's midfield into play
Naah!! Quinny cost a massive £1.3m He was too tall, too slow, only scored 67 in 218 games. What did he ever do for us?
Not as well as Quinn would have. Let's resume this conversation when Carroll has played more than 200 games for the same club, hasn't been injured half the time, and has maintained a decent scoring record and then he'll be worthy of being compared to Quinn. As it is now, he's a big strong lad who is very good in the air but not much use anywhere else. He's too old fashioned for the modern game I think.
Ok, fair enough. I would suggest that the fact he still gets a game in a good Slaven Bilic West Ham side indicates otherwise but there we go
