I was a bit stingy there, it will more than likely be about 1,000. I don't think people are going to Palace just to protest, they can protest at home on Tuesday if they want, they don't have to travel over 400 miles to do it.
You may not think it, but that's what the people going are saying. I tend to take their word for it. It's still nearer the mark than implying the gate's reduced as a direct consequence of the ASI.
You don't think that if the tickets were half price, or the travel free, that more people would have gone? You're wrong, there'd be at least two more going.
But, there'd be several more not going in that case as they're going to join a protest. If we followed the lead of say, Liverpool, I hardly think two pound a ticket would affect much.
We'll find out on Saturday how big a protest we get, I'm expecting the Allam Out banner and a few bursts of 'shove your Hull Tigers' but nothing more. The small discount off all tickets that Arsenal and Liverpool have done wouldn't suit us, but it's what their fans requested, probably because they know they're going to sell out their allocation everywhere already and just thought everyone who goes should see some benefot. For us, it was far more important that we heavily discounted tickets for Swansea, Southampton, Palace etc, as these are the games we could really do with a decent following at. Withholding the money is petty, vindictive and completely self-defeating.
I have protested in the past when the club were staring oblivion in the face and we had under 3,000 of us left on the terraces. The club had no hope, no plan, no money and those running it no interest. I think we had grounds for a protest or two because twenty odd thousand fans, people like yourself, had protested with their feet and simply walked away from the club. I did learn that you have to be careful what you wish for. Was the Chapman/Blakey regime, well intended as it was,any better then the regime they replaced? Likewise Hinchcliffe and Buccanan, Lloyd, and so on? In those days those protesting knew we had other interested parties waiting in the wings. I don't think that is the case today and that was my question. That is no ironic that is common sense.
You could well be right, but none of that was the original argument. You claimed tyhe low gate was a consequence of the ASI, I pointed out the ASI issue could have increased it. The extent of any actual protest is pretty much irelevent.
They may have invested millions, whether they're earning interest on it or not, they may have been responsible for breaking our record transfer on several occasions, they may have been responsible for our re-elevation to the top flight of English football, they may have donated millions to charity and HKR (one and the same!), however their reign will still be defined as this... petty, vindictive and self-defeating. How sad and totally unnecessary.
