So the minimum we can now expect is a play off place but still can get the top spot of course. I think if this was offered to any of us at the start of the season we would have accepted this! Looking at the table, we are actually guaranteed a top 3 place. This means if we do miss out on top spot and end either 2nd or 3rd, we will be away in the 1st leg of the play offs and home at the Mem in the 2nd leg which should give us an advantage. If we do end up 2nd we will face 5th place and if we end 3rd we will face 4th place. Its very close at the moment with who will finish in 4th and 5th with 5 teams who realistically have a chance of getting these 2 places. These 5 are: Maccs, FGR, Eastleigh, Woking and Halifax. Form against these teams... Maccs: We won 4-0 at home and drew 0-0 away. FGR: We lost 1-0 a home and drew 1-1 away. Eastleigh: We lost 2-1 a home and drew 1-1 away. Woking: We won 2-0 at home and drew 0-0 away. Halifax: We won 2-1 at home and drew 2-2 away. So we have drew against all these teams away and all at home apart from FGR and Eastleigh which we lost. In fact there are 4 teams we havent beat this season, FGR and Eastleigh are 2 of them. The other 2 we still have to play again - Dover and Alfreton. IF we end in the play offs, who do you prefer to face and who would you want to avoid?
Beat Macclesfield in the playoffs, Grimsby in final to answer your question, but I still think we will win the league My desperate wish is for Barnet to lose the next 2 and Grimsby to lose 1 and draw 1 and Rovers to win the next 2 then if my maths is right we would be CHAMPIONS and I could attend the last game
like I said earlier,it doesn't matter to me who we meet in the playoffs because I am convinced we will beat them, and achieve promotion. Still holding out hope for automatic promotion but with Barnet + Grimsby still grinding out results the play offs are looking increasingly likely I'm afraid! Who cares as long as we go up!
Here is one I guess for the statisticians, I wonder what the highest points tally a team in this league has attained and then failed to gain promotion ? I would imagine with the way the top three are currently going this year could see any records broken, as one team is going to miss out...possibly two
Max anyone can get this season is Barnet 94 points. So if they win all games they be top on 94 points. If we win all our games we can get a max 93 points. Now 93 points is a lot and still miss out! But to answer your question Delsy, its not the highest! Here is a link showing you who has come 1st, 2nd and 3rd in this league going back as far as 1979/80 season: http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/conference/history 1991/92 season, Wycombe came 2nd on 94 points. They came 2nd on goal difference as the champions Colchester also finished on 94 points. 2012/13 season, Kidderminster came 2nd on 93 points which is the max we can get. But this is the highest..... 2011/12 season, Fleetwood won the league with 103 points. 2nd place was Wrexham who finished on 98 points!!!! Wrexham then failed in the play offs losing 3-2 (on agg) against 5th placed Luton who ended up 17 points behind Wrexham on 81 points.
I promised on this forum that I WOULD NOT ATTEND ANOTHER GAME THIS SEASON UNLESS PROMOTION WAS GUARANTEED
Wow ! 98 points and not go up, what a sickener , and look where Wrexham are now, if ever this was an incentive for our club to now push on I dont know what is .
