http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/28129627 F1: Caterham team sold to Colin Kolles-led consortium The Caterham F1 team has been sold by owner Tony Fernandes to a Swiss and Middle Eastern consortium. The new owners will be advised by former Midland and HRT team principal Colin Kolles, and they will continue to race under the Caterham name. Former Dutch F1 driver, Christijan Albers, will take over the running of the team, assisted by Manfredi Ravetto. "We are aware of the huge challenge ahead given the fight at the bottom end of the championship," said Albers. "Our target now is to aim for 10th place in the 2014 championship. "We are very committed to the future of the team and will ensure it has the necessary resources to develop, grow and achieve everything it is capable of." Both Caterham drivers, Sweden's Marcus Ericsson, and Kamui Kobayashi of Japan, have failed to collect a point in this year's Drivers' Championship. Malaysian businessman Fernandes, who is also the chairman of Premier League club Queens Park Rangers, entered F1 four years ago with what was then called Lotus Racing. The team's name was changed to Caterham in 2012 after Fernandes bought the manufacturer of lightweight sports cars. However, they finished bottom of the Constructors' Championship in 2013 and look likely to repeat that in 2014. On Friday, Fernandes tweeted: "F1 hasn't worked, but love Caterham Cars."
Good, I'm sure he'll focus on us. New training ground, new stadium, Premier League - that's enough to think about and run an airline
Good news indeed - anyone know how much he flogged it for, F1 teams are mega-bucks so here's hoping he can invest (wisely) his profits into the team/stadium
SSN says that when he first took over Lotus (Caterham) he was influenced by the probability that there would be a spending cap, thus making it more of a level playing field. This has never happened and the likes of Ferrari, Mercedes and McLaren can continue to outspend the smaller teams, buying success. Tony is fed up and bows out. Doesn't that sound familiar? Rather hypocritical if you ask me.
That other Swiss Toni knows cars, the good life, and how to treat a woman - will get Caterham firing on all cylinders.
Good. I hope it means he spends more time on the day to day running in and around Rangers. While the cat's away and all that.
Selling his F1 racing team is the best news yet. in life, one money pit is bad enough and thank f--k were it!
He still has a Motogp 2 team but that's much cheaper to run and motorbikes are a lot more exciting than f1
Despite all the talk of selling for £350 million it's reported he sold for a cut-price £20 million...
Personally I actually think that it’s a real shame. I liked having our badge on Formula One cars (especially when they crashed into the cars which had the Chelsea badge on them). He just got really unlucky this year in that the new Renault engine that they use is a dog, outputting substantially less horsepower than both the Mercedes and the Ferrari engines. This coupled with the fact that their main rivals Marussia switched to Ferrari engines this year and have now scored their first championship points, means that it’s virtually certain that Caterham will finish last in the table. That’s a really unfortunate double-whammy, couple that with the ever spiralling costs and I can’t blame him for having had enough. A pity though as a successful F1 team would have helped to promote the football team internationally.
Caterham are now the worst team on the grid, its good to go no longer associated with them. Bernie ****ed over Tony real good by lying to him. Hopefully he gets banged up in Germany soon but we all know rich people don't go to prison.
