.QPR owner Tony Fernandes says John Terry should lead England

Terry not a racist - Fernandes

QPR owner Tony Fernandes believes John Terry should remain England captain while allegations he racially abused Anton Ferdinand are investigated.

The Metropolitan Police is formally looking into claims Chelsea's Terry abused QPR's Ferdinand in October.

However, Fernandes told BBC Sport: "I think innocent until proven guilty.

"There's been no hard evidence either way of John's alleged statements. If he's the right man for the job then he should be selected as captain."

BBC Sport understands that Terry has been included in Fabio Capello's preliminary England squad for November's friendlies against Spain and Sweden.

Fernandes went on to say that he agreed with former England player Paul Ince's comments that if the allegations against Terry are proven, it does not necessarily make him a racist.

"Lots of things can be said in the spur of the moment which don't make you really believe what you've said," added Fernandes.

"I don't think you can write someone off as a racist because of one statement.

"But having said that it is in the public eye and people like John have to be gooder than good. If he said it, it is wrong because of who he is but I don't say he's a racist because of that one statement."

The Football Association (FA) is also looking into the alleged incident and defender Ferdinand, 26, has given a statement to them saying he has "very strong" feelings on the matter.

Ferdinand declined to elaborate further until a "thorough" FA inquiry has been concluded.

Blues captain Terry has denied the allegations, which relate to Chelsea's 1-0 loss at Loftus Road on 23 October.

The FA announced its investigation after it was claimed Terry shouted racial abuse during the west London derby.

Some viewers claimed video replays from the match between the sides showed Terry using racist language, while the FA said it had received a complaint.

Terry was stripped of the England captaincy in February 2010 after allegations that he had had an affair with the ex-girlfriend of Wayne Bridge, an international team-mate.

He was reinstated by coach Fabio Capello in March after the Italian deemed a year without the armband to have been sufficient "punishment".

Having done his level best, with a few mates, to destabalize the England dressing room. Capello knows that if JT is going to be in the squad/team he has to suck up to him.

When Capello and Terry go the England team will be easier to run.

"If he said it,it's wrong because of who he is".What the **** does that have to do with it,if it was someone saying it to someone else on the street, that's ok then.I think Tony's wrong on this one,and he should be giving more backing to Ferdinand.Terry has previous for racist remarks, unlike Ron Atkinson who made that comment on Desailly and subsequently lost his job because of it.Atkinson was the first manager to bring in high profile black players in the late 70's with the like of Regis,Cunningham and Moses yet his one off comment 30 odd years later meant he had to be a racist!Whether Terry is England captain or not is surely irrelevant, agreed innocent until proven guilty, but come on this is taking the piss. The quicker the FA sort this out the better, but if they take no action it will be a mighty kick in the teeth for all those trying their best to eradicate this sort of thing from the game!

I thought it was common knowledge that a lot of players infiltrate not 606.

    rangercol is aka Adel Taarabt,
Eamon is in fact Joey Barton and ranger 77 is Steve Claridge.

I'm sure there are even more footballers posing as fans on here though.

I think the main points here are that TF has said QPR stand 110%% behind Anton, that QPR are totally against racism in football, and innocent until proven guilty. These are all excellent values. I don't reckon Terry has ever been worthy of being England captain, but to take that away from him now, the FA will look like their saying he's guilty before it's proven so I agree they should take no action until if and when he is. If he's proven guilty for me he shouldn't play for England or in English football again, let alone be captain, but I expect charges will be dropped due lack of the hard evidence TF refers to. I agree with you on most of what you write Hammersmith, including the quicker its sorted the better - but the FA have said they are waiting for the results of the Police investiagtion I believe.

To quote John Terry : "Context... context..."

TF isn't saying that it's ever right. He's saying that for the England Captain to say it adds an extra layer of wrong. Some of the scumbag racists on our streets that abuse people because they think it's justified are always going to be wrong, but they are also never going to be role models. And whilst you'd argue quite successfully that JT isn't ever really going to be a role model for his behaviour and attitudes, the England Captain should be.

That's what he's saying, HH. Taking one sentence, it's easy to twist it out of context.

That having been said, I can't really see how you can take "You f***ing black c***!" out of context.

Hocus Pocus keep up the Focus

The whole JT circus is an example of how today a story is produced ... The rest is about taking every opportunity to tag the wave and ride it QPR included ... There is no such thing bad publicity ... This has been milked and the nipples are sore

It's so simple as the daft prat is trying to defend himself with the word context

Wannock claims he wants people in prison?

AF is currently holding A Black Jesus status on the streets

AVB is backing JT as the best CH in the world so they can sell him if he goes Pete Tong

Its all getting whipped up ... Why?
