Good news, Tom Parkes has signed a one year contract extension to the summer of 2016. His contract was set to end in the summer of 2015. Meaning if we havent sold him by the end of his contract and if he remains club captain until the end of his contract, he would be leading the club out at UWE stadium (all being well of course). Parkes said: “I am delighted to sign a contract extension with Bristol Rovers. This is a massive club with huge potential and expectations and I want to be a part of that. Hopefully now we can continue to build and move our way up the league. I am young and ambitious, but I see the club moving higher up the leagues, and if we can get promotion this season, and go from there, then that would be great. The gaffer has been amazing with me, giving me the captain’s armband and putting faith in me. Working under a good manager is really important.” Ward said: “I am really pleased that Tom’s contract has been extended, as it shows the commitment of both the club and the player. He is a young man who has been made captain, and is setting an example for others. He has taken everything on board, and it has even improved his game. I am trying to strengthen and improve the side with the young players we have here, and Tom is a big part of that.” Higgs said: “We are delighted that Tom has committed his future to the club. Tom is a hugely important member of our squad who leads by example, and he has made the captain’s armband his own. We believe that Tom has a very bright future ahead of him, and we hope that he can continue to develop and progress with Bristol Rovers.” Dont know about you guys but something sounds fishy to me about this!!! Your thoughts?? .
His head may have been turned by an approach from another club, or his agent encouraging him to go for more dosh. Either way he's committed to us until 2016, so I'm happy with that. If someone else wants to buy him, they'll have to fork out. Can't see what else can be fishy? What are your suspicions CJS?
thought the wage budget is at its limit according to ward? guess not. i doubt he would have accepted another year with no wage increase??? so if we do have something in the wage budget pot, why use it on someone who has 2 years still left on his current contract and not use that to fund further help in the playing squad like a striker or winger for example?? seems strange to do this. maybe im thinking too deep into this. but maybe we have cut a deal with parkes to take a wage cut. he is captain and leader and says he can see the ambition at the club. he has bought into this. so maybe he can see we need the help and took a wage cut to help ward to fund a new addition and he been given extras in his contract to make up for it which wont be seen and dont effect the wage cap/budget? maybe its just innocent and ward/higgs wanted to give good news today after the new regarding the JW. hearing captain parkes talk about our ambition etc may cause less people to worry and moan about the club! but it just seems strange to me
