For an R perspective, I completely agree with Norfolk. He was too light weight for us in the Championship, but I think he'll do well in the Prem.

Valley, I wonder how many of us have actually seen him play. Would imagine we will see him maybe on the bench Saturday and then starting against Rotherham. Then we will all have something to judge him on. Lets hope it is all positive. Lets all hope he does a Siggy and looks better playing away from White hart Lane.

He's a bit of an unknown quantity. Has Carroll come in as back up for Britton,or is the Stambouli transfer still on?

Heres hoping it works out for Tom Carroll as I've been hoping to see him used more with us but it never happened due to us being over loaded with mid fielders and him needing a run of games which he wouldn't get. Although he has made an impact with us, mainly as a sub where he comes on and uses his skill and vision to play positive football.

Tim Sherwood was a big fan and tried to recall him last year from his loan. Sherwood also brought through Bentaleb who is now 1st choice and won the fans over and stuck by Bentaleb when fans where calling for him to be dropped and thats what players like Carroll need. A manager that will believe in them.

Hes ambitious with his passing range and has been compared to Modric, as like Modric he likes to start moves with his passing range. The worry is he needs to make an instant impact but I've been saying for a couple of years now that if Tom Carroll wasn't with us, he would be ideal for a club like Swansea so if this doesn't work out then it will be a sign Carroll isn't cut out for this level. This is the lads chance to prove he can make it as a premier league footballer.

Swansea City new boy Tom Carroll can thrive like Joe Allen and Leon Britton, says Garry Monk

By South Wales Evening Post | Posted: August 26, 2014
(New signing Tom Carroll on the pitch at the Liberty.)

GARRY Monk has compared new recruit Tom Carroll to Leon Britton and Joe Allen as the on-loan Tottenham midfielder prepares for a possible debut against Rotherham United tonight.

Carroll has arrived at the Liberty for a season-long stint hoping the move to Wales will give him the chance to make a mark in the Premier League.

But the 22-year-old's first chance to impress should come in the Capital One Cup this evening as Monk is tipped to make changes to the side which saw off Burnley last weekend.

The Swansea manager must decide whether Carroll is sharp enough to start — and if he is ready to go straight into the side having arrived from London late last Friday.

But if possible, Monk will want to get the new man involved.

"Tom's a very good footballer," Monk said.

"We've watched him and done our analysis over the years. We've seen him at Spurs and a lot of him at Queens Park Rangers.

"He's a very good footballer who will very much suit us.

"I've spoken to a lot of people who have trained with him and coached him and speak very highly of him, so we're very pleased to have him.

"He can come here and show that good side of football we need — he's good with the ball, can pass and move and get himself in good positions. I think he'll offer us another option."

Carroll is not a powerfully built midfield player, and relies instead on his technical ability.

Known for his quality on the ball, he has managed 23 Spurs appearances since making his debut in a European tie against Hearts three years ago.

Carroll has played seven times in the top flight — although he is yet to manage a start — and has had encouraging loan spells at Leyton Orient, Derby and QPR, who he helped to promotion last season.

Now comes a chance to play for Swansea at the top level — and Monk reckons he can thrive like other diminutive midfielders have in SA1.

"A lot of people will talk about the strength side of the game, but we've shown over the years with Leon and Joe Allen that if you pass the ball quickly and move quickly it doesn't matter about the physical side of the game," Monk added.

"Tom can improve on that side, but he suits our philosophy and I think he can do well for us and show what a good footballer he is and we believe he is.

"I would put him in the same bracket as Joe and Leon. He's that type of player.

"He's a very good person as well, really humble, and will want to come here and do well for himself."

Well with comments coming from the Manager it looks like we're still looking to play the ball quickly .He'd better pass on that information to some of the players

    <ok>

From what Garry and Spurs have said, it seems that Carroll has been brought in for match time - but surely that would have been alongside or sub for Leon?
With Leon out, for what looks like an extended period, we another more established DM. Carroll might be just what we need but even if he is outstanding we still need cover for him.
I'm afraid Shelvey can't continue to be picked to play in that role.

Quite difficult to diagnose especially in joint areas -symptoms initially feel like muscle fatigue or 'splints' and can take weeks to develop to a point that a definitive diagnosis can made. Went through the 'splints' when I used to run a lot and stress fracture was considered.

Very high praise indeed. If he is as good as suggested here, I can't wait to see him on the pitch. With Leon injured I'd start him tonight <ok>
