I arent sure if he is in NP's plans, i hope so. Only paper talk but if he has knuckled down and got the extra strength then we have a hell of a player. Maybe last season was second season syndrome, a lot of young kids burst onto the scene then drop off in their form.

Not much of a chance of getting in our midfield this season as he's behind, Bullard, Evans, McKenna, Koren, and somehow Harper. Although you never know!!

He's going to Donny on loan for the season.

EDIT: He's going to Liverpool for £5 million <doh>

AP told Humberside that we're definitely open to letting him go out on loan but he's not for sale.

For want of repeating myself about Cairney, he needs to up the anti. Avery poor attitude and lack of pace is his main problem. Loses the ball to easily, wont fight back for it and everything seems to much trouble. But there is skill in there, no doubt.

A season on loan where a manager will take no **** and work him hard and I think it could work out that we may have a new player when he returns.

I expect Tom Cairney to play in the Macclesfield game for sure. Dont think City will loan him out until after the transfer window has closed. If TC has got his act together and is ready to up his game then City would be mad to loan him and then see Bullard go. If Donny want him that badly they will have to wait until the sept. loan window opens. imo.

Good point, you have to have someone who can play the ball from deep. If it isn't Bullard, Cairney needs to be in the squad at least. We can't have another partnership as boring and uncreative as Harper/Evans.

There's nothing wrong with Harper and Evans. It's no worse than Ashbee and Marney. It's the sort of midfield that allows you to go and play comfortably with two wide players, two forwards and full backs bombing on. It's about how you setup. Our problem was when we went behind, we didn't have the players to bring on and change games. We were too 1 dimensional.

Yeah, I preferred the City team without Harper. The one that was heading for League One.

Harper was OK when he first came back and played with Ashbee, but when Ash and Bullard left he was ****e. He needs a holding player alongside him. Evans and Harper together offered nothing going forward. I'm willing to reassess Evans in particular in the new season, but I don't think either of them were anything special at the end of last season.

Harper was ****e after everyone jumped on his back for doing the steady job a defensive midfielder should be doing. He had some good games after Ashbee went. The results don't lie.

    My summary of Cairney:

+ has got the physique to bulk up and with that he'll become stronger and harder to knock off the ball, he's still young.
+ he has got the touch and quality to be a success

    - he lacks speed
    - he too often plays the percentage ball, which although doesn't lose possession doesn't penentrate the opposition defence either
    - there have been questions over his attitude, this is harder to comment on as I don't really know

I think it therefore depends on himself, if he deep down has the desire to play in the PL, he has to put the work in. I can see him being a good player for Donny however, they create a lot of movement where he could find the passes and space. He should be ahead of Harper in the pecking order and that's down to application.

Harps & Cairney 'bring different parts of the game to the table' (sound like Phil Brown ha ha). IMO they are both back up midfielders; therefore Tom may go out on loan. However don't think it will be until the very last minute when we know we have the squad to get through to January

Neither Harper or Evans were particularly good or offered anything really. Ashbee and Marney had that little extra. As Ashbee would rally the team and get stuck in to the opposition midfielder. Some games he would boss the midfield physically and not let them get going. Then there were always his wonder goals. Marney was also...erm...well he offered...hmm...there was the time that he...oh hell Marney was terrible, he had vision but couldn't actually pass the ball accurately. I think the best pass I saw him make was playing the ball 40 yards down the touch line for mendy because the lazy french sod wouldn't move. Credit too him though he got there.
You've given maintaining possession as a weakness? I'm sorry? I'd rather keep the ball than try a good forward pass that gives it away and ends up with the ball in our net.

He lacks speed? Welcome to our midfield.
He keeps possession?? Thats a bad thing??
As you say attitude, who knows on here though some seem to think they have inside knowledge.
