CRAIG Gordon is set to rule out a reunion with former Sunderland boss Steve Bruce. The new Hull City boss – who has rejected any hope of signing former Hull men Michael Turner and Fraizer Campbell – is keen on Gordon, whose contract at the Stadium of Light expires this month. Gordon, though, has no intention of dropping down to the Championship and sees his future at the highest level in England or the Scottish Premier League. The 29-year-old has been linked with potential moves to Celtic, West Brom and Wigan Athletic and although his last two seasons at Sunderland have been blighted by injury, he does not see himself at a stage where he needs to be looking at dropping down a level. That would be a disappointment, but not a surprise, to the former Sunderland manager. “Craig Gordon is a possibility,” said Bruce. “But it would be wrong of me to talk about individuals,” he said, before pouring cold water on the prospect of returns for either Turner or Campbell. Campbell was a star while on loan from Manchester United in Hull’s last promotion while Turner was voted Player of the Year during the course of three seasons with Hull in which he earned his reputation as a powerful, reliable centre-back. “Michael Turner? Yes, we will have him back if that’s possible, but I don’t think it would be,” Bruce admitted. “Certainly Fraizer Campbell is the same. I know they were great players here, but my aim is to find some more of them if we can. “I know there is a clamour for new faces and what I would say to Hull City fans is there will be, but we have to be patient and take our time.” With Gordon set to be a non-starter, Bruce could well look at the situation of former Black Cats goalkeeper Trevor Carson, who was also released by Sunderland this summer after his contract expired. Bruce never had the confidence in the former Northern Ireland Under 21 international to hand him a start at the Stadium of Light, but he would be an inexpensive option, especially as a back-up keeper.
