I make the current squad Ruddy, Rudd, Steer, Martin, Tierney, Bennett, Barnett, Ward, Ayala, Francomb, Whittaker Butterfield, Lappin, Smith, Howson, Adyemi, Pilkington, Hoolahan, Johnson, Fox, Crofts, Surman Bennett Morison, Holt, Vaughn, Jackson, Martin, Dawkins If Turner and Snodgrass do sign (really hoping they do) that will give us a potential squad of 31. Of those I think 6 (Rudd, Steer, Francomb, Adyemi, Smith, Dawkins) are 21 or below so we have reached capacity. Is that it for the season or are some about to go to make room for new arrivals? Sentiment says keep Lappin but I think realistically it is time for him, along with Ward and Chrissy Martin, to move on.
As I said on another thread, without the new signings it get us to 23 and some of the younger players will be turning 21 soon so they will have to count towards the 25 from February in order to player for Norwich. It's a difficult one. I say keep Lappin as he is still a good player and is cover at left-back.
I am sure there will be more players coming in, maybe only one or two more so places will need to be made available for those signings. It would not surprise me if certain players were already lined up for other clubs and once we get our targets, those players can be released. If that theory is right and we do sign these two players this week I think you can expect to see movement out of Carrow Road next week or the week after
Ward, Barnett, lappin and crofts. Bring in another CB with turner and naughton on loan again to play either flank
i expect at least one more signing - defensive midfielder - so at least one will have to leave. i'd rather keep hold of lappin, i think he can do a job in a number of positions. sadly, although i like him, i think crofts is the fall guy. would be great to see naughton brought back but i just can't see it happening
I really see only Crofts, Barny (if we get someone else in at CB - Davies looks unlikely now) and maybe Chris Martin going. I don't think Ward will leave (he was last night's first half skipper if that means anything) and I think we ought to keep Lappin for his versatility. I have a sneaky suspicion that Fox will end up at the Villains as well, despite his contract extension signing.....
Sums up the end product of our academy in recent years - a point which was raised and discussed a short time ago.
I think we need lappin - he lacks pace, but he is versatile and a model pro a few of them will go on loan you'd have thought, maybe at least until Jan. Usual suspects, Steer, Smith, Tom.
sure does! though this should now be rectified now that we can search nationwide rather than just in norfolk
I don't think Ward is going anywhere this summer- just extended his deal. I know he gets a lot of stick, but as a back up he's ok and probably very cheap, just (as has been mentioned before) so long as he's not dragged out to the wing
Wonky, I think that as long as they're under 21 at before a certain date then they qualify as under 21 for the whole season. Even taking that into consideration its still a tough one to work out who is going to go. Putting sentiment and bias aside I think it'll be the following: Barnett - Has got Ward, R.Bennett, Ayala, R. Martin and potentially Turner in front of him for the centre back berth Crofts - Similar situation to Barnett. Now has Hoolahan, Howson, E.Bennett, Pilkington, Butterfield, Fox, Surman, Johnson and potentially Snodgrass in front of him for midfield berths C.Martin - Again, fifth choice behind Holt, Morison, Jackson and Vaughan Lappin will probably go if we sign another left back Of course, all this is based on the last couple of seasons with Lambert in charge, who knows what Hughton will do
I was always taught that if a CB is dragged out to the wing anywhere forward of the penalty area, one or other of his full back or the midfielder on that side (or both) has made a mistake. A lot of what look like individual mistakes are actually caused by team mates, either being caught out of position, giving a suicide pass, or failing to offer a get out ball. You can't expect everybody to have the ball control skills and agility of a Iniesta, David Silva or Xavi! And before anyone tells me you can always hoof it, even that isn't always on!
quite right! it was noticeable last night that our shape, although flexible going forward, was far more rigid defensively than at any time under lambert. this can only be deemed as a good thing. it should stiffen us up at the back and make us a bit harder to carve through, though the addition of a decent defensive midfielder would help this matter no end!! i think we may be far more organised at the back this season but it may be detrimental to our forward play. hopefully we can get the balance right - we certainly have enough flair and creativity in midfield to make things happen
If the under 21 thing lasts the whole season that's good but I think if they turn 21 between the first registration date, 1st september, an the second registration date, 1st february, then they don't have to be part of the 25 until february.
w00t I was right about something! This is from last season http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/news/news/premier-league-squad-lists.html The key bit is this: for the 2011/12 campaign Under 21 players will have been born on or after 1st January 1990. So for the 2012/13 season they will have to have been born on or after 1st January 1991. That means that all our under 21 players won't need to be registered until next season
I think Barnett will leave or go out on loan if Turner comes in. There was some talk of Warnock being interested in Crofts, so that could happen if Snodgrass comes in. That would leave room for a DMF and a LB even without Lappin leaving. I would also keep CM as cover in case of striker injuries. The Squad is beginning to look very solid and I was hugely impressed watching the slick and intelligent passing in last night's game - there was an air of Tottenham about it! OTBC!
