Hello , Newcastle fan in peace.

I wanted to surprise my Man United supporting friend with a ticket for the semi final against Schalke for his birthday.

Can you tell me how easy it is to get these tickets? Do I need to get a membership first? If I get the membership will I be eligible to purchase those tickets? I don't want to waste 20 quid on a membership whilst not using it for a game.

    Help would be greatly appreciated.

might have to get another present.

they're really unlikely to be on general sale for the semi finals of the champions league. your only hope is probably getting in touch with some united supporter groups and hope that someone isn't going, then you get their ticket for the game. keep an eye on the united website about being on general sale. i dont think they will be, but if they are, they'll be announced on there first.

Although what if I get him a membership first? Would have called the box office but they won't let me ask questions...

getting the membership, which costs 20 squid, doesnt guarantee you'll get your hands on tickets. all it means is you'll be entered into the draw for them. i've never been to a cl semi final, but i imagine there wont be a spare seat in the ground, and any general will be snapped up in minutes.

you can try getting the membership, applying and seeing if you get lucky with them being allocated to you. but there's no guarantee. and with everyone who doesn't have a season ticket also applying for tickets (through having a membership), your chances of getting them aren't great.

what you mean box office wouldnt let you ask questions?

if you are thinking about becoming a member, then application for tickets has gotta be sent by monday mate.

    best of luck!

Well it's mostly this computer configured robot talking to me! When asked to press 1 for applying for Schalke tickets , I had to enter my membership code and I don't have one. Anyways , you've been much more helpful! Will try and get him a premier league game , that should be easier.

    Thanks dude <cheers>

Aye thought so.. He'll have to settle for Blackburn or Blackpool at home! That shouldn't be problem getting tickets for one of these 2 , right?

that might be better actually. the game itself might not mean as much, but he might (hopefully he does) witness the league trophy celebration <ok>

    blackburn is away though
blackpool at home, although will be busy because it's the last game, you should be fine with.

Not sure how it works at Utd, but members at SB have to have a certain amount of loyalty points to get tickets towards the end of the season accrued by going to games over the whole year, and then they sell out very quickly as well.

Big run in with Utd nearly at the finish line means it might be tricky, but still worth a shot...these would seem to be games that would make it to general sale if any were going to<ok>

    Try the ticket exchange:

    http://www.viagogo.co.uk/manutd/

That's where season ticket holders sell tickets to the games they can't make. Much easier than messing around with membership just for one game, and all transactions are guaranteed. Viagogo is the official partner, so you can trust them to deliver the tickets fine.

Just make sure not to buy him an OAP or Child ticket! <ok>

i haven't had that much of a problem getting tickets through general sale for the last home games of the last couple of seasons. you usually get a lot of people who can't be arsed because its the last game of the season, even if a trophy celebration is to take place at the end.

Is it a trustworthy site? Out of the seats which one would you say has the best view?

    Cheers mate.

EDIT : Just saw it's from the official website so it must be trustworthy <ok>

Haha never! Enjoyed the game yesterday guys , was hard fought , and a draw as probably a fair result. One of the most entertaining goalless draws I've seen in a while!

not that many bad seats at the ground to be honest. i usually sit in the east stand (opposite the stretford end) just to the right of the goal and it's peachy.

It's a trustworthy site - it' was set up to discourage touting and only Utd season ticket holders can sell their tickets. The girlfriend of one of my mates got a pair of tickets through it in 08-09 for his birthday. It was the Villa match - the one where Kiko scored the last minute winner. The lucky bastard!

Like jordan says, there are good views from pretty much all around the ground. The only places I'd say to avoid are North Stand Tier 3 (unless you like the view from the top of the Gods at St James'), the top tiers of the NW and NE quadrants as the view is also pretty distant, and right near pitch level. The pitch is raised up at OT so if you're right down the bottom of the stands it can be hard to see what's happening on the other side of the field. Although you do get a better close up of some of the action from there.

I'd recommend the second tier of any of the four main stands.

I'd recommend you check out, www.ticketmaster.com

All the tickets that are left over from general sale are usually sold on that website. I tried purchasing tickets from the United ticket hotline, but I was also told in order to buy any ticket I had to be a member. Gary Neville testimonial tickets are being sold at £25 on www.manutd.com
