Odem gone - Brayford out on loan - what about Corny?

£7.5M and £45k a week for the next 5 years was the biggest mistake of the three, and probably the hardest to resolve.

Cut losses an move him on (if anyone would take him on those terms), or have patience in the hope he'll come good?

I've said this quite often lately <laugh> so please excuse me.. He is still young.

Again, maybe a season or 2 on loan somewhere could benefit him?

    It makes you think Sparkey,

Malky was supposed to have large dossiers on all players in his wanted lists. <yikes>

cornelius, difficult one, he hasnt been fit and he's only really had 10 mins here the odd cup game there, we're not in a position where we can perservere with a young player in the hope that he'll come good when sadly the order of the day is someone like kenwyne jones who will be acting as if he's doing us a favour by turning up.

at the moment you'd do well to find a club willing to take him on at 1/3rd of that salary, which in the bigger scheme of things is nothing. he stays as a option for me.

That's the problem John, we haven't got the time for him to come good mate. That's what I meant by including him in the "three mistakes".

Whereas spending about £4M between them on Odem and Brayford looks certain to have been a poor investment, the money lashed out on Cornelius could just prove to be a mistake in time - that's like right now. He could still prove to be "one for the future", but it was a mistake to use so much of the budget for this season on such a speculative punt.

I really hope Corny does come good in time for his sake as well as ours - at least we'll get some mileage out of him on the pitch as well as the chance to recoup his transfer fee. Apart from that £7.5 M fee, what we can't recoup is £45k a week for 5 years on a guy who might not make it - that money could and should have been spent more wisely.

I said it on another thread.

Whatever else happened with MM, Moody etc. Cornelius at 7.5m and £45k a week was a sackable offence. The 3 mistakes you mention could cost us our PL place by wasting £12m + of our budget. It's no real wonder Tan went mental about our transfer 'policy'.

Cornelius really does look like someone took a backhander, £7.5m and those wages for one season in a **** league! Surely we've paid at least double what should have been the going rate.

I don't see how Corny can be regarded as "one for the future" based on what we have seen. Nothing about him suggests anything but League 2 at best and this is a player we bought as our main striker to play in the premier.
Something seriously wrong with this buy, he should have at least shown some glimmers of what he might be capable of, I haven't seen anything except a lumbering carthorse.
Consider the difference between him and Daelhi, one looks the part the other doesn't.
It could be in a year or so this might change, but corny was bought for the here and now, to help keep us up this season, not for some distant future that may never come about.
Our only hope is that Ole finds a way to compliment his style of play(assuming he has one) that will put him in a position to fire home a few goals, if there is anything about him thats good then a goal should bring it out, but I'm not holding my breath on him.

Not sure about the "backhander" Stevo, prefer to be charitable and label it professional incompetence from those concerned. (is that being charitable? <laugh>)

Must admit that the punch in the wallet culture seems pretty widespread in the game these days though, and Malky/Moody have been very quiet on the subject since.......<whistle>

Tan has been villified for his actions, and on the pure footballing front rightly so, but financially he is as astute as they come and probably saw through some bad decision making by those he'd entrusted with his money. It didn't need a "football nut" to recognise the problem areas in the squad and how it translated onto the pitch.

I just wonder what we'd have got in if Solskjaer had been given £35M at the start of the season (apart from the entire Molde team and old boys <laugh>)

Sweetblue - the difference you highlight between the quality of Cornelius and Daehli is absolutely spot on. Obviously different types of player, but Daehli oozes calmness and control even at his age whereas Cornelius has shown us nothing other than the lack of it.

I can see three mistakes but I think they are different to those you identified:

    1 - You support Cardiff
    2 - You support Cardiff
    3 - You don't support Swansea

    <ok>

(Don't worry, if we lose to West Ham I expect a deserved backlash!) <laugh>

Project - I appreciate that your comment is made in a light-hearted manner, but this is a football discussion thread mostly for the Cardiff members though obviously open to all.

You're welcome to contribute an opinion even though you're a visitor, but any further attempts at derailing it, and any others for that matter will not be tolerated.

I started supporting Tan a long way back as I could not see for the life of me how he could be blamed for poor signings, poor tactics and poor results.

One leaked report was Tan was texting Malky during games to ask him why we were not attacking and getting shots on goal along with leaving some of our best players on the bench...if he never then he should have.

Imagine if this £12million was the total budget, it wasn`t we were given a lot more.

Since Malky left there has not been one game where I have been totally depressed at how we were playing but there are many games when he was here that we should have tried to win.

We have just been away to the top Manchester sides and can be proud at how we played.

Ole came in left 1 point above relegation with those two games coming up.

We have to take one game at a time without worrying about each result, the road is long with many a winding turn.

Jack for f**k sake give it a rest. You keep repeating the same old **** time after time. It's getting a bit monotonous.

If, if, if. If your nan was born with bollox she would be your granddad.

Odem waste of money. Brayford never given a chance. Cornelius a blonde Rudy but again never given a real chance.
