Before the season started we had invested heavily in the team with a 'buy young British players' mentality. Looking at this in hindsight this investment has failed. For me I wasn't too pleased when we spent a lot of money for Downing, Adam and Hendo whereas in the Rafa days we had a lot of foreign players but it worked Rafa built up his squad very nicely but it took about two years before we challengd for the title and ended up 2nd. This is my point our team is still 'under construction' despite the ridiculous amounts of money we have wasted. However it slightly annoys me with other fans calling for the sacking of Kenny, don't get me wrong I have been frustrated just like the many of you with our results but we have won our first trophy in 5 years and are in the FA Cup final...it's a good start to try and challenge the top teams next season. For me the summer period is one of the most important summers in the history of the club..we need to get things right and bring quality in and most importantly a striker who is a finisher and get you 20 goals a season in the league and a RIGHT WINGER..our lack of width has been lacking for some time now and we need that dimension of play whenever we play Carroll. Anyways what are your thoughts? do you agree with me or have a different opinion? Let's forget about the league form and concentrate on Saturday I personally cannot wait
There are quite a few articles around about people wanting Dalglish out, but I have to say, who are these people? I think I've seen maybe two people who want Dalglish out. I agree we are under construction but I hope FSG and Kenny do too, and so invest this summer. The players we have bought arent great but they will add to much needed depth and I feel we desperately need a poacher this summer, a CM and a winger
Yes, a striker is most definitely needed!!!!! We have played good football and created shed loads of chances but not won those games, KK will know this Even Utd and City dont play every game well and unfortunately we're somewhat behind them at the min Bring on Sat, I hope to God we can lift that cup
Yes I agree we do not have much depth at the moment but I assume Kenny already knows the squad do need a major boost with 3-4 key quality signings. we definitely need a poacher as you quite rightly pointed out we rely heavily on Suarez to produce the goods but I feel he creates a hell of a lot of chances and if we get a suitable partner in for him who can convert their chances then we'll be talking business. With regards to Carroll I think a good right winger who can cross the ball and beat the first defender to provide the service to Carroll whenever he plays...our wing play and crosses have just been poor.
My summary on the season would be: If we only win the Carling Cup - a poor season If we win the FA cup - a decent season I agree that our team is still under construction and it's for that reason that I am against Kenny being sacked. For example, I said at the start of the season that I would not judge Jordan Henderson on this season, so despite how underwhelmed I am by him I'll willing to give him time, especially since Kenny kept playing him out of position. I'm still in two minds about Carroll: Will he succeed with the right players being brought in plus better management? (for example the team selection vs West Brom did Carroll no favours whatsoever) or is he doomed to never fit in to Liverpool's preferred style of play? For me it's the signings that were supposed to hit the ground running that have failed. Adam will do as a squad player, but not as a first teamer, and Downing just hasn't done it often enough. The one encouraging thing is that with Kuyt and Maxi both likely to leave, we need to sign at least one (but hopefully two) wingers. It's been a long time since we had a pacy young winger in our side, and all of the teams above us have at least one. and of course it's obvious that we need a clinical striker up front. Someone that can move defenders around so that we can get the best out of Suarez.
Hoew good did Suarez and Gerrard look though against Norwich? We havent seen that sort of stuff since Torres and Gerrard Gerrard and suarez havent played together much. On Sat I want to see Gerrard behind Suarez with Bellamy cutting in from the left and Kuyt from the right Gerrard in cm seems to upest our shape? god knows why Spearing ...... I dont know, this is a big game. Its okay saying he'll be alright and having trust in him but if he ****s up thats it, we lose the cup. But who else is there for that role? Unless we go with 3 centre backs?
To be fair Spearing did well against Man City, both in the 3-0 deafeat (he was the only player to emerge with any credit that night) and before he was subbed in the 1-0 win. It's not that he isn't capable of doing it in the big matches, just that he's not consistant. I'd be happier seeing Spearing in the team than Henderson.
Gerrard in CM means he's got to limit how often he bursts up top to support the attack but once you give him that attacking mid role just off the strikers then he performs very well and I have to agree the Gerrard and Suarez partnership against Norwich had flashes of Gerrard and Torres partnership... I feel the Lucas injury was the turning point and from then on we struggled as if memory serves me right we weren't doing that badly with Lucas providing brilliant cover for the defence No idea what the team will be on Sat but hope Bellamy starts as he has a history of doing well against Chelsea
The way I see it, is that the players we brought in last summer have improved the overall squad depth/level. Unfortunately, we have decreased the first team ability/level. This summer, I'm sure Kenny will be buying some first teamers who can slot straight into the first team, therefore increasing the squad ability again. At least this season, we had options to come off the bench to change the game.
