His time has passed, though I did see him several times years ago and he was quite funny back then.

Same. I don't remember him being racist or trying to hard to be "controversial", was obviously blue and was quite funny as OLM says.

If you want a modern comedian who does material no one else does, but in the right way, simply go to you tube and put in Jim Jefferies....you are welcome....

I just don't think he's someone who should be associated in any way shape or form to the future city of culture...

But it's Hull's working class, down to earth, non-pretentiousness that was the backbone of the bid.

That's irrelevant... my point is Culture and Roy Chubby Brown are extreme opposites.

But clearly I'm too much of a posh snob as everyone else seem to be big RCB fans.

    I would disagree.

How do you define culture ?

A comedian telling blue jokes to a receptive audience is part of our culture.

I bet Roy also goes down well in Liverpool, or Leeds or many other northern cities.

Like most on here, it's not for me, it's an old fashioned kind of comedy now, but I don't begrudge other people's enjoyment.

And like you have just realised about yourself, yes you do appear to be a snob.

Roy Chubby Brown playing in Hull doesn't have any reflection on Hull as a City.

    It's just a comedian doing a gig.

The fact that some people might turn up, shouldn't be something that keeps you awake at night.

It's all a matter of standards ...I'll be a snob to some and a slob to others.

Either way, if I am a snob for disliking Roy Chubby Brown, then that really isn't saying ****ing much.

If you want to see him then buy a ticket , if not then don't . It really is that simple . I won't be going because I don't think he's funny .

It's not the fact that you dislike RCB that makes you a snob, it's the fact that you're sneering at those who might......& trying to imply that the crass working man's comedian, might reflect poorly on the City's status...

Does he still have a fan base that could fill Hull City Hall ?

Didn't think he was still that popular.

Each to there own I say ... On his night in the 70's and 80's he was bloody great and saw life through a working man's eyes. Just my opinion mind. You will be asking to hide Hessle road and all the other places in our great City, Swearing and jokes are part of life why should this change. Also agree he is past his best though :)
