Hello folks. don't know how long I've been away but been having problems logging on. every time I did it froze my laptop but it seems to be OK again now. There are too many missed threads to read thorugh so just a ferw thoughts really. 1. I think MM and the players have done an exceptional job this term, specially given the lack of strengthening in January. I think most would agree that offered our present position before the season started most of us would have thought it was a wind up. 2. In view of my first comment I don't think anyone, including TG or VT should gtr anally retentive about the play offs. We know its a lottery but if West Ham beat us we have still had a brilliant season, and if we beat them it could be deja vu with Blackpool in the final. Whatever happens I think we should just be immensely happy at where we are and just enjoy the ride. I for one won't mind if we don't get to Wembley, after all we should give other teams a chance of visiting our second home now and again. But I think the more time MM has now to build on what he has done this year over the next 3 months the better. We know now he can see talent and picks players well. A few more aquisitions like the last 11 and we will be in a good place come August I believe. 3. Finally I hope this season had shown the board that money spent wisely will have the desired effect and that they give him the power to do what needs to be done next term. I know he is right (AS DJ also said) that you cannot make players come and play for you, but hopefully as we keep acheiving then players and the managers advising them will see that for the right players it could be a good career move to come and play here. I mean how many Prem players know that Man U have been training at the Vale training facilities? That alone should tell people something about the direction the club is going in. And as Sir A talks to lots of managers and players perhaps his word will help. All in all I for one am well pleased with the progress of what was vertually a completely new team. to achieve what has been acheived inside one season is remarkable. Lets congratulate them all and look forward to next season with anticipation. SEAN
I'm with you on that snaggle. Probably far overachieved in the first half of the season, but a final position that we'd have taken happily at the start of the season. I also believe that outside the prem, we are becomeing a team that players are happy to come to, success breeds success. OK, we haven't acheived the ultimate goal yet, but we keep knocking on the door. Money always talks and players will go to the big payers, but even if we can't pay the big bucks, we still have a lot to offer. By all accounts, MM had a call from Sir A and met up with him. Not a bad confidant to have. I hope we can do a job on WH, but it may be a step too far this season. But as you say, the roulette wheel is spinning....................
good stuff there sean with january transfers, i'd rather we spend nothing than buy crap, or get involved in bidding wars, at least this summer there are more funds for malky to reshape the team again, rather than buying stop gaps (as thats all thats available in jan). at the start of the season i'd take 6th, but i agree that even if we dont go up then its been an excellent year, but remember were on a 10 match unbeaten run despite some of the doom and gloom floating about recently.. the real positive for me this season is that even if the players arent as good as those last year, they are playing for the team and not for themselves....well done malky
The top 3 were just to good. I think we should have ended up 4th, but it really doesn't matter come the playoffs. The team seems to play better against the better clubs as well. We showed earlier how well we had done against the top 2 and how poorly we did against the bottom 2. Liverpool would also agree we can dig in when required. I am happy to play West Ham over two legs, and think they may be in for a surprise! At least with Sam as their manager, you know exactly what you are going to get. Blackpool is the team to beat I feel.
