The public accounts committee report on the operations of Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) is a damning indictment of the Treasury and tax officials. Some £25.5bn remains uncollected from disputes with 2,700 companies. The amounts are bigger than the budget for the secondary education or transport.

Not much of a surprise that many of the companies who haven't paid their tax bills are also sponsors of the Tory party. You don't even need a conspiracy theory, it is bleedin' obvious. Twenty five BILLION remains uncollected.

Still, soon be Christmas, mustn't grumble.

If public sector staff were to just shut the **** up and accept the pension changes then this wouldn't be an issue as it would offset the 25 billion. These companies create thousands of jobs here so i don't know why anyone's moaning about it.

If they would let me opt for a private company to take my bins instead of paying rates I know what I and the majority of people would do.

I'd struggle to put a figure on what else the council does apart from maybe cut the public grass twice a year. The leisure centres are as expensive as private health clubs, the gritters never bloody appear when we have two weeks notice of snow and they have cut the bin collections to once a fortnight.

I reckon I could get better value for a 100 quid a month.

It would end up costing you that just to get your bins emptied.

Every time they privatise something they tell us things will be cheaper and a better service. Just like the rail, energy companies, telephone companies etc. All treat customers like **** and charge you a fortune for the privilege. That's privatisation for you.

It cost me 85 quid to get a large skip about 6 months ago when I was doing my house up.

Northern Ireland which is the only part of the UK not to have privatised energy (until a few months ago) has the most expensive electric bills in the country. You can get broadband for 5 quid a month from TalkTalk (BT used to charge 25 a month when they had a monopoly on ADSL) and BT is one of the most expensive for telephone calls.

The only thing I wouldn't privatise is the NHS.
