OK, so what the **** do we do with him?? Last season I'm sure most would agree that while we weren't the one man team that many pundits and opposing fans claimed we were, it is hard to imagine that we would be in the position we are today playing in the Premiership without him. He had many critics last year, some who wouldn't have had him in the team which to me defies logic. Most were just critical of his bad attitude. After the ultimate joy of finally securing promotion and being able to breath easy after the FA farce, the big question became - Would Adel be able to play in the Premiership? So far the answer has been no. I started to get very excited when he showed signs of coming to life against Newcastle and then Villa. Alas this was followed by the debacle at Fulham, and Adel's subsequent departure from the ground courtesy of London Transport. Our first half performance against Tottenham seems to have been a tipping point for Warnock, it must have been because for the first time he sent the team out in a 4-4-2. Now while I was as big a lover of "Sir Neil" last season and his achievements for us, I did on occasion have a little moan that while I wouldn't have changed a thing, it was frustrating only playing with one up front because it meant that we found it hard to score when Adel wasn't on form and we found ourselves struggling to close games out for long periods of the season. But this now brings me to the point of my post. I know that most are now leaning towards selling him in January, and I'm now one of them. Now that we're playing 4-4-2 and I assume we will continue to, where the hell would Adel play in this formation? I don't really see that he could as he wouldn't have the cover that was always afforded him last year, which we've already seen this year would cost us when he gives the ball away. So under what circumstances can anyone see him playing again for us this season?
He could play the type of role Van Der Vaart does for Spurs if he gets his act together. An on form Taarabt behind a quality striker, with Barton/Faurlin/SWP/Mackie behind could be great. I still wouldn't sell him in January though, I have this eternal optimism that he'll come good eventually.
I think there is a place on the bench for him in the Impact Sub role as floated by SooperHoop a week or so back. If Mackie or SWP is struggling and we need a goal, why not throw him on? As to how Adel responds to this, only time will tell. To bring him on in a more central role, we would need to be stretching their defence to give him space to be effective.
Tough one. Seeing how well we performed against Citeh without Adel in a 4-4-2 set up has certainly given Warnock something to think about. I'd love to see a formation or tactic that can use Adel but he has to be up for it, no point at all in putting him in the team just for the sake of it. Sadly the only things we get to hear are his alleged calls for a move away from W12. The "come and get me" pleas to other teams are insulting but not unexpected. If PSG make another offer in January I reckon Adel will be offski.
in two minds over this, yes he is quality but also a liability, his best games so far was newcastle & wolves but the rest average to poor, but looking at the side against city to me we should keep that, they played as a team although it was 442 but that side can revert to 4321 or 4231, if a decent offer came in jan say about 10mill i would take it for him.
No-one is gona offer big money for him on the showings so far. Got to keep him in the squad and earn his place through hard graft in training and coming on in substitute appearances where he shows teamwork and final product. I believe he still has a role to play + he was so good for us, will always be fondly remembered (sniffle*)
Good if Taarabt rises to the challenge and I hope he does then the script is written for one of the best talents in the league .... All of all just look at the snippets he has shown so far on the premiership : outstanding passing and without the bad luck he could have been top scorer He will come back and rip this league to bits .... Our team is looking solid and we are bedded in now Bring it on
Think he has showed as a player against Newcastle, Wolves and Villa that he can cope in the Premier League. Problem is, no promoted teams can afford the luxury of having a player like Taarabt playing regularly. I've said it before, let him play against the bottom 8 home and away as long as he's up for it. Something tells me he won't be thrilled with that idea though
I could see Tarbs (against the right team at the right time) playing just off Betty or HH in a kinda 4-4-1-1 formation. Then again, I think DJ would also be effective in this role when he returns. He could also be, as people have already said, an effective impact sub for SWP or Mackie. He may be dropped for the next match, but I'm sure Warnock still has him in mind. We have played well without him and in a 4-4-2 formation for one and a half matches, this doesn't mean that it will work every game. If we loose against Stoke and Norwich, I'm sure people will be calling for his return and a 4-2-3-1 formation again!
A fit, on form Adel could play in a 4 - 4 - 2, either in the 2 with HH or Bothroyd, or anywhere in midfield except leftside in front of Traore. A fit, on form Adel would be brilliant - all he needs is hard training and everyone telling him he's the best player at QPR since Stan Bowles....
We definitely play him Against Swansea home. Their defence hasn't changed much so he will still tear them apart. The rest, maybe not.
He won't get a chance until suspension or injury make a space for him, or we are in a desperate situation and he comes on from the bench. Then If he plays a blinder (hopefully inevitable now) making a lot of us including me eat humble pie and providing a formation problem for Warnock. How nice to have a thread on this much visited topic without that twat 77.
The only way we can play hm now is as a sub bringing him on if the game isnt tightly poised.Other than that he is a liability. We cannot afford to play with 10 men again this season.
