The Passing of the Sports Mail I have just visited the News website and understand that the front page sailor has indicated his last result with his thumbs touching. What memerories do we have of this paper? As a kid my Father would drive myself and some of my friends to Pompey home games from Worthing. The drill was after the game to go to Commercial Road and hang around until the paper came out and then drive home. Getting the paper was part of the fortnightly ritual. It was interesting reading the email comments on the paper's passing in the news. Many relating to the Saturday ritual of waiting for the paper and all are genuine comments without regressing to the usual blue vs red dross. Your memeories of the paper please.
It's a real shame. Our discussing it on here, is probably reason number one as to why it's gone, ironically. I always remember going back to Chichester, after games by train, walking across to the bus station kiosk, to find it had got there before me!
Used to buy it after the match - usually in the newsagents by around 6.30 pm. For the last few years, they couldn't be bothered delivering it to the island on Saturday evening, and it arrived over here usually on the following Monday, so it became an unnecessary purchase as it was "old news" by the time you bought a copy. Still a good read over the years though.
