I haven't caught up with the Guardian articles yet, but from the book, therere is a real hint TSF grew up as a Pool fan, which would rule out Kitson as he's a real Spurs man.

There is a definite theme throughout the book that he is English and is currently playing after getting his career back on an even level after a bad big move went wrong. That could lean towards Kitson who had a disastrous time at Stoke. This bad move led the player to drink which brings us back to 2 players suggested in this article earlier.

From reading the book, I don't think I can recall any plausible link with Redknapp. TSF does talk about having an American team mate which again would lead back to Kitson as he played with Bobby Convey and Marcus Hahnemann at Reading.

Not saying it is Kitson , but I can see why many have thought it might be him.

Kevin Davies fits everything bar playing with Di Canio....for that matter it would rule out Kitson too.

The other thing I noticed is that TSF avoided answering about 'red herrings'...would the newspaper advise such a thing! <whistle>

Not explicitly, but someone called Paolo who's foreign and how "won free kicks" has been.

No, but the natural assumption would be that, but I've since chucked Wanchope into the equation.

As said, I think Kevin Davies fits all that now, even the South Korea thing, Bolton took part in the Peace Cup in 07.

In the book he gives a big hint about knowing Robbie Keane, because he goes on about how Keane intelligently uses the transfer system to get big pay moves.

"Most people in web forums seem to think it is Kevin Davies, who is very active on Twitter and apparently mates with The Guardian’s Barry Glendenning"

I've jut been reading Davies's wikipedia and I can definitely see a strong case for it being him. What does put me off is that TSF came into the game late and not through a youth system, whereas it would seem Davies did.

That's the issue here. I wrote the article based on never seeing the Guardian articles, but based on my reading of the book. The responses have been based on reading the articles and not the book, hence the variance in hunches as to who TSF is.

I would imagine the Guardian who no doubt want this to run, will want his identity kept. However, the more the player writes in this style, its inevitable clues will add up, so the more I think about it the only way to avoid that is to chuck a red herring in.

Its hard to imagine a club giving him backing to do so either so all the more reason to stay hidden.

Two names to throw into the pot.

How about Julian Dicks or Matthew Etherington?

Bobby Zamora?
English, played for the Spammers, is married, has kids, had a long-term girlfriend (Page 3's Nicola T) in the past who he didn't marry, had a big move fail, involved in relegation battles...

Spurf - Julian Dicks does not have a current PL contract, nor would he have had in games the TSF has said he's played in. <ok>
