We will be safe on completion of the next league games if 1. We win and Villa lose 2. We draw and Wigan lose 3. We win and Wigan draw The only scenario where we win and not be safe is if both Wigan and Villa win Fixtures are Aston Villa V Chelsea Arsenal V Wigan Norwich V West Brom Other possibilities for almost safety We win, Villa draw, Wigan win We win and Newcastle lose will give us at least a 3 goal difference advantage going into the last game
We really dodged a bullet with that Swansea win last night. It is such as shame we conceded against Villa at the end, our chances of survival would have been massively improved.
That is highly dependent on results elsewhere, nobody is going to be moaning (even me) if we draw and Wigan lose. I'd probably take a draw if offered.
If we draw it will be a ridiculously exciting few days football; Saturday- FA cup final (and villa) Sunday- NCFC vs WBA (and others) Monday- Youth cup final Tuesday- Arsenal vs wigan The only one I will actually enjoy will be Monday night, every other day is too important for our future!
I understand Wigan were all over the place defensively last night, lets hope Arsenal are hungry for goals and absolutely hammer them.
If we end up requiring GD difference to save us, we will go down as Man City always spank us 5-1, so -4 should be added onto our current tally
I wrote this on the Relegation Watch thread, but it's relevant here as well: Good that Spurs drew 2-2 at Chelsea tonight, who can secure their CL place if they win at Villa on Saturday. Similarly Spurs need a win at Stoke and Arsenal need to beat Wigan at the Emirates as they battle for the final CL place. In other words, they all have good motivation to win their matches, whereas ManCity have already qualified for the CL and have a Cup final as well as their final two matches, so will at least have a fatigue factor and no meaningful motivation. Spurs play Sunderland at home on the final day and Arsenal play at Newcastle. Hopefully Wigan will be down before that, but if not, it could help City. The possibilities seem endless at times!
I think come Thursday morning (or after whenever Wigan play) we will be safe. Providing we do our bit, the fixture list is being kind to us.
Good post, clear and to the point Carrabuh. It's all based on Wigan's games in my opinion. Arsenal are playing for that Champions League spot which should motivate them they are on form too, but I've seen them bottle must win games up before and you can certainly count on Wigan to battle on their life. Perhaps if Villa are uncertain going into that last game of the season against Villa could potentially help. We need to do the business I don't care how but we need to do it. I said months ago that I didn't want a Fulham situation and we're close enough to one at the moment.
Yeah, they were shocking - the injuries to the back line have clearly taken their toll. It wasn't just silly individual errors like misplaced passes, it was their positioning too. Swansea looked effortless in attack. Trouble is they'll probably have a stormer against Arsenal... My main concern is that West Brom will definitely want that eighth spot and with Man U at home for Fergie's last game, I can't imagine they're banking on that one, so we may well be in with a big fight. By all accounts they did not deserve to lose to Wigan at all.
