Righteo. Back to square one. Loads of questions need to be asked and answered this week. Who stays, who goes?? For me; Green = Stay, Orange = Undecided, Red = Goes Kasper Schmeichel (vice-captain) Ritchie De Laet Paul Konchesky Danny Drinkwater Wes Morgan (club captain) Zak Whitbread Ben Marshall Neil Danns Jamie Vardy Andy King Lloyd Dyer Sean St Ledger Conrad Logan Martyn Waghorn Michael Keane (on loan from Manchester United) Matty James Paul Gallagher Jeff Schlupp Richie Wellens Jermaine Beckford Liam Moore Anthony Knockaert Márkó Futács David Nugent Harry Kane (on loan from Tottenham Hotspur) Chris Wood
Kasper Schmeichel- Needs to be offered a new deal. We must do everything in our power to keep him, with Beckford set to leave I would even consider offering Kasper 30K a week to stay Ritchie De Laet- Very good season, he will be first choice again next season Paul Konchesky- Get rid, for the wages he is one he just isnt good enough Danny Drinkwater- He was superb for most of the season. He will have another big role to play next season Wes Morgan- Captain fantasic will have another massive role next season Zak Whitbread- Crap get rid Ben Marshall- Not too sure what to do with Marshy, very good player but he has had a pretty poor season. Nigel will have to do some work with him over the summer Neil Danns- Get rid. Not worth the wages Jamie Vardy- Hard to fault him as he gives his all but simple fact is he isnt good enough Andy King- He will be a big part here again next season Lloyd Dyer- Decent squad player to have Sean St. Ledger- For the wages he is on along with his injuries I would look to let him go Conrad Logan- For me it would depend on what happens with Kasper and who replaces him if he goes. If Kasper stays then give Logan another 12 months. If we dont have a steady keeper next season we will need decent back up Martyn Waghorn- Very good footballer but lacks the goal threat. Probably would let him go if we get a decent offer Michael Keane- I doubt we will be able to get him on loan again. I would have him back aslong as we have decent competition Matty James- He got better and better as the season went on. He will have a big part to play next season Paul Gallagher- Wages miles too high and he isnt good enough Jeff Schlupp- Strange situation with the Man U trial but since his return he has been very good Richie Wellens- Best days are behind him. No longer any use to us Jermaine Beckford- Wages too high, attitude and work rate not good enough. Sounds like he is signing for Bolton Liam Moore- Very good prospect and cover for centre half and right back Anthony Knockaert- He will be even better next season if we can keep him Marko Futacs- He hasnt been happy all season and failed when on loan at Blackpool. His days was numbered as soon as Chris Wood signed David Nugent- 16 goals for Nuge despite 2 long barren spells represents a decent season for him. Guaranteed goals Harry Kane- Utter bollocks Chris Wood- 20 goals for Wood in his first proper season. He has looked injured for sometime but a summer break should see him back to his best next season
Pretty good summary - you know I'm not really a Nugent fan but he did OK today - but compare him to Vydra and you can see why Nuge will not be a Premiership player
If luck evens out next season then we will win the league by miles!!! But in all seriousness I'm more concerned about keeping players like Wes and Kasper than who should go.
Need to be as ruthless as poss to free up some funds for new players Kasper Schmeichel (vice-captain) Ritchie De Laet Paul Konchesky Danny Drinkwater Wes Morgan (club captain) Zak Whitbread Ben Marshall Neil Danns Jamie Vardy Andy King Lloyd Dyer Sean St Ledger Conrad Logan Martyn Waghorn Michael Keane (on loan from Manchester United) Matty James Paul Gallagher Jeff Schlupp Richie Wellens Jermaine Beckford Liam Moore Anthony Knockaert Márkó Futács David Nugent Harry Kane (on loan from Tottenham Hotspur) Chris Wood I'd sat that we need o a good winger or 2 for either side to a. free up Knocky and b. cover for Dyers bad spells. o a new CB, Keane on a perm plus one other that will challenge Keane for that spot. o possibly a new left back a-kin to De Laets abilities o if we really wanna push for the top spots, we also need a Charlie Austin type striker, we need a player that will give us a good/regular goal return.
Looks like Mancini may be about to become available Tongue firmly in cheek btw! ( Would be nice though )
As long as everyone we want to stay does Schmeichel De Laet Morgan CB LB Knockaert King James LM Wood Nugent
If anyone says Schlupp at LB I'm going to scream. His talents are wasted out there IMO, I'm not saying he's a bad LB I'd just rather he play a more attacking role. I'd keep Konchesky, I've always been a fan, and I think Marshall still can make a wide spot his own. He just needs to use the summer to sort out whatever demons have been plaguing him. So CB is the only real question for me (though I'm not holding out hope that Schmeichel will still be here!).
You don't need a big rebuilding job surely? You just need someone who can get the best out of the squad you have - Nigel didn't do that this season - and a couple of additions here and there?
Nuge has scored some great goals for us. But the biggest problem (and Vydra as suffered this too this season) is when he goes off the boil. Sixteen games without a goal at the end of the season is a major contributor to our poor form. If Nuge is lacking in confidence, the whole team seems to (see the Brum game, although that shouldn't have been a peno!).
I agree, but we also need a strong attacking option (or two) off the bench and to cover what essentially are two very good strikers that unfortunately struggle with confidence at times. What are our thoughts on Keane? Should we make a bid? I think not myself, we need another experienced head. Are there any more Morgan's out there?!
I would have Keane back but only if we can sign an experience defender aswell. St. Ledger's isnt worth the wages and is too injury prone. Whitbread is just crap so we really need to sign a defender. We also need an experienced head in the middle of the park. King, James and Drinkwater have been superb but they lack some muscle and experience at times We need 2 centre halfs 1 Left Back 1 Winger 1 Centre mid 1/2 strikers
Whitbread is a funny one. How many players has Nige signed that have hardly played for us? Vardy is the other signing from last summer that's in trouble. St Ledger, Danns, Beckford and maybe even Konch are likely on the "get rid" list. I agree, we also need a Lennon/Wellens type that will get stuck in. I thought today we looked like we have a soft underbelly at times. There is actually quite a lot of work for the manager to do this summer, even though we aren't a million miles away. When you look at this list of needed players, four of those at least would go straight into the starting line up.
If we are all happy to be in this division by the end of next season, keep pearson, cos that's where we'll be... I wonder if Alan young will still be calling for "continuity" and no chopping and changing then? Here are the FACTS so far...... hull sacked barmby against most of hull the fans wishes towards the end of last season, their owners could see he wasn't going to do it for them. they brought Bruce in at the start of this season..they were proved right. Zola was brought in at the start of this season by their new owners.. with the remit to get that small club up, he is on the verge of doing it... pearson was brought halfway through the season before this one..with the remit to get us up and quick...he has failed ..... I have always said he lacks something at the top level... he is a not a top drawer winner..thats the hard truth.. its not his fault he lacks the imagination or inspiration to make the right decision at the critical moments ..this level is decided on fine margins, pearson is just deficient in this area.. he hasn't made it with the advantage of vast resources this season and a half..so why will he when resources will be far less? a shame but true...
Difficult to disagree. I do respect the man, I think he's done a great job. But I don't think he can take us further and more importantly, keep us there.
...And what about all the clubs that got rid of managers and did nothing? Truth is, stick or twist, there's no guarantees. We also have to realise we're still suffering the fallout of Sven. We have five or six players he bought in that, until we're shot of, we can't really replace, hence what appears to be a small squad. Hopefully most will go this summer. And actually, we finish higher under Pearson when we spent less and wages were lower. If we're going to be working on a budget because of FFP, then I think Pearson is the type of manager we need. We certainly can't afford another Sven.
