Well, i'm back, and i was feeling so good and got such a good pace going i decided to do 19 and was doing great til i got to 15. Now boys, i have a problem and i need advice! When i first started all this training i got cramps in my calves and after a while, they disappeared. Since Easter, and for the last three weeks, they've come back again...big time. Two weeks ago they weren't too bad and i managed to walk them off, last week they were a little worse and i had to stop to give them a rub..and today they were terrible and at one point they had me in real pain. But, they're almost always only in my left leg with the occasional twinge in the right. So...although my time is good (19 miles in 4 hours and 38 mins), i have stopped every mile or so to rub out the cramps since 15 miles and at 18.4 it was so painful i had just collapse for a bit! I'm gutted, frustrated...and not sure what to do! Any advice? Pretty please with cherries on the top!
Hornette - Couple of things to try. Stop every couple of miles and strech the calf and hamstring muscles - do the toe-pointing exercises. Chew a glucose tablet or sugary sweet as you walk around, we use to have Foxes fruit sweets (except the orange ones - anything orange is banned in our house!). When you finish, spend 10 minutes stretching the muscles again and stay warm....
thanks w-y ...they're calm now..but crikey that hurt, and i was doing such good time til then! i think i'm beginning to fall apart lol...i kinda wish it was next week and not next month now! i think also i need to walk more between Fridays..i'm not doing as much as i was...and maybe some stretching in the week too, that might help. Hmm, Dextrosols here we come! (and btw, i'm completely with you on the orange suckies..totally a no-no! lol)
Hi H glad you got back ok , thats one hell of a time especially if your having a few cramp stops! Wy is right up the glucose levels as your going along , If you carry a water bottle try filling it with Lucozade!and your gonna like this, take a choccy bar with you as well Leo is aslo correct Bananas(energy sticks) are also good , but are slower acting , so scoff a banana with your breakfast!
thanks Norway...this is obviously a sure fire way of gaining weight while exercising lol..i'll give all that a go! On reflection, i think it must have something to do with the heat and the amount i ...hmm..what do ladies to? Perspire...lol..actually i think in this case i could safely call it sweat lol. With all that salt going out, it's no wonder my calf is struggling... Right, bananas, glucose and chocolate are on the next shopping list!
Went to docs today! they have scanned me knees(not pretty) badly worn miniscus on both knees Have been lots more mobile since the fish oil and omega 3 though! I walk heaps and climb up and down staging at work, so if they do get worse ,I`m screwed the doc gave me some exercises then asked me about my usual exercise and took his sheet back
Hornette - Do you do any short walks between the big 'uns? We used to do a quick 4 or 6 miles a couple of times a week as well...
H what your doing is nearly sensible but have a look at this link http://www.offthepost.info/2011/05/...feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%
i was but haven't been able to in the last couple of weeks w-y...which hasn't helped, i know...i need to find time for that Norway - good grief! Good on him!
Eddie Kidd (the daredevil stuntman) is also doing a "slow" marathon - been on the beeb a few times - he seems to be mostly paralysed down one side - extremely brave - I admire him
