Now then chaps, I'm calling upon thee to help with a problematic situation.

Having moved away from Newcastle a few years ago now, i've not been out on the lash in the toon for quite some time. I still come up for all home games but sadly driving takes precedent nowadays so the ale is a no go.

However, I'm coming up for a hard earned session on the beer on the weekend of 15th/16th of October for my birthday with a mate. It's the spuds game and sadly he's a yid, but he's great on the piss! I was wondering if you can inform me of the better establishments to go to both during the day, and at night. Like a good beer and some pool/footy action during the day, then some decent bars and possibly a club at night (preferably somewhere that isn't full of kids and doesn't play hardcore dance music). Much more of an indie, retro man myself.

Any help would be greatly appreciated lads. And if you are out and about that weekend, you are welcome to join for a few beers! (that includes you Tash, we haven't forgotten) <cheers>

I'm going to be in Newcastle for a couple of days and wouldn't mind asking similar since this thread is here. Anyone know if there are any good cafes that aren't chains like Starbucks or Costa? And does anybody know any bars that play jazz (not necessarily live but live is ok too) and have nice imported beers?

For continental beers check the 4th which is near central station and they have a pretty decent music scene if memory serves... not 100% on it's exact location but you should be able to google it. The Goose is pretty close to the ground and is relatively cheap with a decent selection. Head of steam which is across the road from central station is also pretty decent for music and variety of beers hope that helps

on and around pink lane will probably satisfy most of that

decent(ish) ale pubs, good matchday atmosphere, and i'm sure there's a massive sign advertising jazz (can't say i've ever investigated further though, haha, sorry).

the central in gateshead has been done out lately and is pushing the real ale massively, short walk to quayside which can be trawled, and i'm sure there'll be a decent cafe...

sorry but i'm merging both of your preferences together here for ease haha

few pubs worth a look but will probably be rammed:

newcastle arms - across the road form the back page shop (if you know where that is)
    forth - pink lane
    the wall - pink lane
    bodega - westgate road
bacchus - just off pilgrim street

I went to somewhere on Pink Lane last time I went to Newcastle and it was cool - seems like the place to be for me. Cheers again.

  12. Lager? Broon Ale?

    Pussies. Feckin Pussies.

I'm not drinking with a bunch of soft ****es.

A Diet Pepsi with a hint of Irn Bru. That's what REAL men drink!

I second this list from top to bottom, Tilley's has a fine ale selection too (as all of the Head of Steam chain do) - though annoying when they bring a dj in on weekends (same complaint with the Forth)

I definitely recognised you when we were waiting to get in the gates at Elland Road, but I didn't want to come off as a creepy online forum user

Apologies for the quite blatant thread bump but the weekend of my arrival is almost here, and I really would appreciate any help you lads could give me. I haven't been on a night out in Newcastle for quite some time as I have to travel straight back after matches usually.

Me and the lads are arriving on the Saturday at around 12 so we just want a basic plan of action. Which bars are best for the football during the day, then a few places at night which don't play hardcore dance and aren't full of kids (prefer some indie tracks). There have been a few top suggestions on here already I just want to compile as big a list as possible in order to give us maximum options. Your help would be appreciated lads.

    Cheers!
